“ He is , in my opinion , a living legend .” Jacob Pritchard- Webb sat down for an interview with the legendary jockey Sir Anthony McCoy just weeks before the highly anticipated Cheltenham Festival , the pinnacle of jump racing across the Channel . An exclusive conversation with the greatest jockey of all time .
Legends are written in to racing folklore by their achievements and the records that they break . Where winners are always idolized and cherished in a sport that has no time for 2 nd place . Horse racing remembers many names throughout the past whether it be flat or national hunt racing . They are symbolized and celebrated either with statues , paintings or books . But one man achieved enough to entitle and receive all three . The consistent debate of who is the greatest jockey ever is certainly one that divides opinion , whether you are in camp Lester Piggott or Willie Carson , team Frankie Dettori or Ryan Moore . One man however stands alone . His accolades means his name is rarely discussed because there is simply no need for the argument , they are unmatched by what anyone has done before or likely to ever do again . An Unmatched Work Ethic AP McCoy was one of the most relentless and dedicated jockeys the world has ever seen , ever since he won his first race in 1992 at the age of 17 years old . From then on , he never took a day off from the fear he might lose his edge or not quite be as good as he should be . I ’ ve been lucky enough to meet him a few times since my injury , as he a president of the Injured Jockeys Fund . Another side to him that not many people have seen is how he not only cares about the sport , but the people who take part in it and take the same risks he did .
