Galopin Des Champs ( Timos ) made headlines on Saturday with a third straight success in the Irish Gold Cup ( Gr . 1 ). Having commenced his career with Arnaud Chaille- Chaille , the Willie Mullins-trained nine-year-old will be aiming to enter the history books in March , as he bids for a third consecutive triumph in the Cheltenham Gold Cup ( Gr . 1 ), matching the exploits of jumping legends such as Cottage Rake , Arkle and Best Mate . It was a strong weekend for the Mullins team , who regularly source young horses in France , as they took victories with exciting novices Majborough and Kopek Des Bordes in the Goffs Irish Arkle Novice Chase ( Gr . 1 ) and the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle ( Gr . 1 ). The unexposed Majborough ( Martinborough ), trained to win his debut at Auteuil in April 2023 by Daniela Mele , has only raced four times for the Mullins team , achieving top-level success over hurdles in the Triumph Hurdle ( Gr . 1 ) at last year ’ s Cheltenham Festival . Bred by Hubert Langot , the five-year-old has taken well to fences and remains unbeaten in two attempts over the larger obstacles . Kopek Des Bordes ( No Risk At All ) represents another star performer for leading National Hunt sire No Risk At All , standing at Haras de Montaigu . The now eighteen-year-old has tasted Cheltenham Festival success with Epatante ( Champion Hurdle , Gr . 1 ) and Allaho
( Ryanair Chase , Gr . 1 ) and Kopek Des Bordes appears to have the ability to enhance this record , with dual entries at the Festival in March . Unraced in France , the fiveyear-old was bought for 130,000 euros at the 2023 Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale , with buyers impressed by dam Miss Berry ’ s exceptional record – she has produced six individual Black Type winners , including Prix Maurice Gillois ( Gr . 1 ) heroine Utopie des Bordes and Guillaume Macaire ’ s useful Darling Des Bordes . The victory of Kopek Des Bordes was one of three wins for French-bred horses on day two of the Dublin Racing Festival , with State Man and Solness taking the Irish Champion Hurdle ( Gr . 1 ) and the Dublin Chase ( Gr . 1 ) on the same card . Joseph O ’ Brien ’ s Solness ( Konig Turf ) was a shock winner of a Grade 1 over Christmas at Leopardstown and employed the same front-running tactics to take the Dublin Chase . Whilst the offspring of Group 1-winning miler Konig Turf may not have initially profiled as potential National Hunt horses , it is a tried-and-tested route for O ’ Brien , who also achieved multiple Graded victories with the Frenchbred Darasso ( Konig Turf ). With three-time Irish Champion Hurdle ( Gr . 1 ) hero State Man ( Doctor Dino ) returning to defend his Champion Hurdle ( Gr . 1 ) crown at the Cheltenham Festival in March alongside his fellow
Dublin Racing Festival victors , French breeding looks set to enjoy another haul of top-level victories from Irish representatives .

SHERIFF TRUMP RIDES HIS MUSTANG
Donald Trump ’ s rise to power sends a clear message to all the “ outlaws ” targeted by Washington ’ s new sheriff . Greenland , the Panama Canal , Russia , China , exporting companies - everyone has felt the sting of his hoof , if not a deadly kick . The United-States , like a cowboy riding and conquering the plains of the Wild West , is defending its economic interests more fiercely than ever in a world that is either aging into deflation and uncertainty ( Asia ) or stuck in sterile stagnation ( Europe ). Not all of Trump ’ s objectives - reducing the trade deficit , cutting public spending , reviving industrial investment in fossil fuels , strictly controlling illegal immigration , easing inflationary pressures
