Chaille-chaille and Francois Pamart. Pamart joined at the beginning of the year having been a long time assistant and it couldn’ t have got off to a better start by winning this valuable grade 3 with the older brother of their four-year-old champion from last year Kaadam. Kashdam didn’ t announce himself on the big stage like his younger brother in his three- and four-yearold campaign. He has been more of a slow burner having won his first race on his fifth start having fell and unseated on his two starts before that. That was at Compiegne in the spring of his fouryear-old campaign and that was on his third start over fences but as mentioned his first completion. His next start was in the Prix James Hennessy a listed chase at Compiegne where he unseated again leaving him with four chase starts with one win from one completion. However, I’ m sure there was no panic from Chaillechaille who had to wait 17 years between champion trainer titles as he knew the best was to come from this son of Kapgarde. Following a summer break, he didn’ t return to the winner enclosure until he returned to Auteuil for the Prix Triquerville listed chase in November 2023 after two more starts at Compiegne. If the best was yet to come however, he didn’ t show it by starting out of the gates slowly as a 5 year old having only 3 starts by the following October resulting
in another win but this time now over the 4,400m trip and beating a host of good horses including Jeune Coko who would beat Kashdam on their next start over the same course and distance in the grade three Prix Fondeur on the same weekend Kaadam his Martaline 4 year old bother won the Prix Maurice Gilloius grade one steeple chase. Not one to be afraid of running his horses Chaille-Chaille declared him two weeks later to run in the Prix George Courtois grade two steeple chase against a star-studded field including Rosario Baron the former Grand steeple chase de Paris winner from 2023 and Figuero the former Haye Joussilin winner. The ground was 5.1 on the going stick so it was going to be a big test for Kashdam having his first start in this grade, but he acquitted himself terrifically finishing a valiant second to Diamond Carl the hot 4-year-old from two years ago by 2 and a half lengths. Three months later Kashdam takes his place in the first grade three steeples chase for older horses of 2025 at much shorter odds this time. The going was slightly better at 4.7 on the going stick and he was taking on last years winner Jazz Manouche, stable mate Ain’ t got wings and former grade one winner Le Listrac. Wearing the hood that is donned by many a Chaille-Chaille runner he took his place near the vanguard just behind the leaders, over the first few be- fore settling in mid division. Jumping very well throughout and traveling enthusiastically Gaetan Masure first jockey for the stable took up the runner with a circuit to go and made sure it was a honest gallop. Flying over the Gros open ditch down the back straight he found himself two and half-lengths clear and kept it that way winning quite comfortably in the end. Obviously, a fan of the softer going he is still unexposed over the gold cup trip and will certainly be a contender and cause a headache for Masure who will have a choice of not only his younger brother but Grandeur Nature as well. One thing is certainly clear, Chaille-Chaille and Pamart are a force to be reckoned with the remaining prep races.
EPISODE 2 Prix Troytown( Gr. 3- 4,400m) March 8 th
