“ SEE EVERYTHING, KNOW EVERYTHING”
In trotting too, the arrival of new technologies has considerably shifted the landscape. Just like the records falling one after another on the tracks, everything has accelerated over the past fifteen years.
“ The time of paper, pencil, and eraser is over,” explains Benoît Fabrega, executive assistant at Le Trot( SETF).“ In the span of fifteen years,” the digitization of data has, for example, profoundly changed the way race programs are developed, a task handled by a six-person team connected to 11,000 races per year.“ The volume of data is such that humans can’ t analyze everything. It forces us to adapt, to turn to new technologies for support. Espe- cially since racing in 2025 is no longer the same as it was in 2010.” There’ s more travel involved now, and races are less regionalized. Like at France Galop, the programming department at Le Trot benefits from the expertise of the Veltys consulting firm. Once again, the tool provides a complete view of the racing population and allows for comparisons over five years. The results are just as encouraging:“ Since 2022, the average number of runners has increased across all age categories,” even though the overall population is declining.“ We’ re already working with Veltys on developing an even more optimized program in the next two or three years.” In reality, the entire Trot world has transitioned into the digital age. On the letrot. com website, which was recently completely revamped,“ our motto is:‘ See everything, know everything.’ Its development is entirely based on our database, with as much statistical information as possible.” Just like with the records on the track, things are set to speed up.“ We are constantly researching and innovating. We try a lot of things. An internal dashboard brings together highly detailed data. By monitoring various factors, we’ re able to detect trends we can act on. All of that is AI.” One possible area of development among many: At a certain point in their careers, horses with high earnings hit a glass ceiling.“ In the future, wouldn’ t it make sense to create races especially for them?” The answer is already implied in the question. And new technologies confirm it.
