MANDANABA
When I think of the flat season starting in Britain, I think of either the Lincoln meeting at Doncaster post Cheltenham festival or Newbury trials day after the Grand national. In France Its first meeting of Paris Longchamp for the start of the turf flat season and for good reason too. Sunday the 6 th of April was when Longchamp showcased the first-time hoof prints were imprinted on the famous Paris racecourse in 2025 and it began with a bang in the trial races. An eight race card that had everything from unraced three year old’ s, handicaps for the older horses and to trial races for the prix du jockey club and prix de Diana. The race that sticks out in my mind was the Al Shiraa’ aa Racing Prix Vanteaux won by Mandanaba the filly by Ghaiyyath for Francis-Henri Graffard and Princess Zahra Aga Kahn.

This was showcased with their stable star Calandagan finishing 2 nd to City of Troy in the Juddmonte international after a romping victory by 6 lengths at Royal Ascot. Graffard will be on a mission to have him winning a group one this year in whichever country necessary, and this was proved by a trip already to Dubai where he finished 2 nd in the Sheema classic. Graffard’ s vast number of horses means there is no end to the talent that could be hitting the racecourse at any time and as mentioned he chose the first Paris Longchamp meeting to release not just an Aga Kahn colt in the Prix la Force but the late Prince Karim Aga Kahn oldest daughter Zahra’ s very exciting filly Mandanaba. Mandanaba is a daughter of former champion and highest rated racehorse for Godolphin Ghiayyath. The
