ARQANA AUGUST YEARLING SALE 16 / 17 / 18 AUGUST Kia Joorabchian’ s Amo Racing were keen to make their presence felt amongst the international powerhouses during Arqana’ s August Sale, competing with Godolphin and Coolmore for the majority of the top lots. Amo Racing, advised by bloodstock agent Alex Elliott, proved successful in securing the highest-priced lot of the sale, spending 3 million on a Night Of Thunder filly. The filly, half-sister to Classic heroines Chicquita and Magic Wand and consigned by Écurie des Monceaux, was anticipated to be popular and this proved true as she achieved a new record for the Arqana August Yearling Sale. The purchase demonstrated the depth of Amo Racing’ s intentions to be involved in bloodstock at the highest level, with Alex Elliott remarking:“ She is truly priceless! To build a dynasty, you need to acquire horses like this. She is a splendid filly, and her dam has produced remarkably well. Her sister won the TDN Rising Star last week; it’ s a very lively family. We are more than happy.” Godolphin and Coolmore also collected some of the best lots on offer, with Anthony Stroud signing the docket at 2.25 million euro for a Frankel colt( lot 178) on behalf of Godolphin and M V Magnier paying 2.3 million euros for a Wootton Bassett colt( lot 104). Out of a Listed winning mare, the Frankel colt is closely related to Epsom Derby( Gr. 1) winner Wings Of Eagles and will hopefully be amongst the team’ s future Derby hopes.“ Some very nice horses have gone through the ring today, and this colt is one of them,” said Anthony Stroud.“ He’ s a superb yearling that walks very well with good conformation. He’ s by Frankel out of a dam by Siyouni, which is a top-class cross. He was one of our favourites today and he’ s a horse that we can dream of Derbies with.” Coolmore’ s support of their own stallion Wootton Bassett was emphasised with the purchase of lot 104, out of the Group-winning mare High Celebrity.“ He’ s a very good-looking colt,” said M V Magnier.“ Wootton Bassett is a sire that has been very successful. We have his brother at Ballydoyle, and he appears to be a very nice horse. We all liked him very much and are delighted.” Coolmore continued their spending spree with a smart son of Camelot for 1.2 million euros, the sixth highest priced lot in a competitive sale. A new record top-price of 3 million euros contributed to a considerable increase in the sale’ s overall turnover, rising from 50,577,000 euros in 2024( including private sales) to 60,177,000 euros for 2025.
ARQANA V. 2 YEARLING SALE 20 AUGUST Trade was down in Arqana’ s v. 2 Yearling Sale, held after the August Sale, with the average dropping by 16 % to 28,048 euros, despite one extra lot sold this year( in 2025) compared to 2024. Despite some disappointing results, a son of first-season sire Space Blues made an impact as the top-priced lot of the sale at 110,000 euros. The colt was the first foal out a Wootton Bassett mare who hailed from the family of Black Type performer Basse Besogne and he was sold to Meridian International’ s Emeric Guetin.“ He’ s a lovely colt,” said Guetin.“ He is by Space Blues, a very good sire, and is well-bred. We’ ve bought him for a partnership and are very happy.” Dr Khaled Salami of KGS Bloodstock bought four lots, including a daughter of Ten Sovereigns for 100,000 euros and a daughter of Blackbeard for 95,000 euros. The Ten Sovereigns filly made plenty of appeal from the family of Coolmore stalwarts Magical, Rhododendron and Auguste Rodin.“ She’ s a lovely filly, that walks well and is well-bred,” said Salami.“ She’ ll come back to the stud for a break before being trained by Hedi Ghabri. We hope she will be just as talented as her sister [ Listed placed Indispensable ].”
