G. Which stallions are best suited to improve bloodlines?
M. B. The two best stallions that have improved the blood are Tiwaiq and Amer. Both were born in Saudi Arabia. Dahess( by Amer) is a golden successor. He too has died, but he still produces( frozen semen authorized in the Purebred Arabian breed). In fourth place I would put Baseq Al Khalediah, ahead of his sire Tiwaiq, then the American blood of Burning Sand and TM Fred Texas, and finally AF Albahar and his brother AF Al Buraq( two brothers born in the UAE). All should be used with French female lines. Turkish or Iraqi blood would give a boost.

Galorama. Which stallion impressed you the most in terms of lineage?
Dominique Boulard. Dormane and Amer, without hesitation. He was already aged, but I had the chance to see the latter about 7 – 8 years ago at the Haras du Grand Courgeon, after two weeks of visits in the Southwest. Today, it’ s an“ old straw” but it still works. Dormane( Manganate x Mandore) is somewhat the foundation of breeding in France. I saw his sons and especially his daughters. Half of the horses I saw often had Dormane in their pedigree. It produces solid horses, usually bay with black legs.
G. Which stallion would be your favorite?
D. B. Al Mourtajez( Dahess x Arwa) is the stallion of choice right now. But the sons of Mahabb( Tahar de Candelon x Joyzell) and Munjiz( Kesberoy x Unchainedd Melody) work very well with Amer. Mahabb is starting to age, but he often transmits speed and produces very strong horses, with a lot of temperament and energy. His return to France has given him a third youth. He now covers only by natural service and it works very well.
G. What would be your ideal cross to produce a stallion?
D. B. Many have crossed with sons of Amer. Now, it’ s time to look elsewhere. Burning Sand( San Lou Romirz x Du Smaragda) came from a cross that broke new ground and worked remarkably well. This departure from the most common bloodlines is the reason why Coolmore bought Wootton Bassett. Owning him will soon become complicated.

DAMIEN DE WATRIGANT

Galorama. Which stallion impressed you the most in terms of lineage? Damien de Watrigant. Since the arrival of the Gulf countries, the Amer line has been very influential and led to Al Mourtajez( 2010, Dahess x Arwa). After that, my heart naturally leans toward Dormane( 1984, Manganate x Mandore). He is the standard-bearer of the family breeding.
G. Which stallion would be your favorite?
D. de W. I currently have seven broodmares in foal to Al Mourtajez, that says it all. The offspring of Al Ghadeer’ s sire have strong physiques and a lot of substance. Mentally, he guarantees great courage. He is the obvious stallion of the moment.
G. What would be your ideal cross to produce a stallion?
D. de W. Hard to say. Pure French blood crossed with Iraqi horses, which bring a lot of quality, for example. I have always had horses with French pedigrees as a base. I like the old French female lines. After that, it’ s interesting to make a mix between Qatari and Iraqi horses. And the Tunisian lines also bring victories. One must also keep in mind that the great
