She might not have been a high-priced pick in the pastures of Gestüt Ebbesloh, and yet. Franziska Altewille-Jacobs explains:“ As a foal, Nicoreni was already very elegant. She was also quite lean, and she never had any health issues. We presented her at the BBAG yearling sale in Baden- Baden, but we bought her back for € 49,000.” Let’ s be clear, her sire Brametot has fallen into obscurity. Winner of the Poule d’ Essai des Poulains – Prix du Jockey Club double, the son of Rajsaman began his stallion career in France and moved to Ebbesloh in 2020 at a covering fee of € 6,000. Franziska Altewille-Jacobs admits:“ Brametot stood with us, but he wasn’ t strongly supported. However, we did use him. That’ s how Nicoreni was born in 2022. After that, we had to face reality, he left for China.” Gestüt Ebbesloh is a“ boutique” stud farm about a hundred kilometres east of Hanover. Only 17 broodmares reside there today, including six for clients. Each individual is therefore carefully selected. Sometimes they are sold, sometimes bought back.“ Her dam Nouvelle Neige was also born here. She is a daughter of Big Shuffle, a Listed winner at two over 1,400 metres. Her own dam had been placed in the German Oaks. But we sold her to Gestüt Görlsdorf. After producing a first black-type with Sea The Moon, we bought her back in foal to the same stallion.
She gave us another blacktype filly who is currently in training with Sarah Steinberg. Then, once again, we put her through the ring.” Empty, Nouvelle Neige left for … € 3,000, and guess who bought her? Gestüt Görlsdorf! For her new owners, she has since produced two colts by Sea The Moon, a yearling and a foal. And that is the genesis of Nicoreni.“ She is often underestimated, but she is an excellent filly,” says her trainer, the talented Peter Schiergen. Dare we compare her to Danedream, winner of the 2011 Qatar Prix de l’ Arc de Triomphe? Not yet. For now, the owners have turned down purchase offers. Franziska Altewille-Jacobs tells us about her possible future targets:“ Nicoreni needs time between her races. She came out of her Gr. 1 success in Düsseldorf in August very well. She is entered in the Prix de l’ Opéra Longines( Gr. 1) on Arc day, so we will see depending on her condition.” Nicoreni is the fourth Preis der Diana winner for Gestüt Ebbesloh after Muskoka( 2023), Arkona( 1993), and Adlerfee( 1938). Her current owner, Ingeborg von Schubert, is the granddaughter of founder Richard Kaselowsky, who registered the colours in 1912. Today, Fantastic Moon has taken over Brametot’ s place at the stud. The German Derby and Baden-Baden Grand Prix winner covered 31 mares this year at a fee of € 9,000. On the sales side, Ebbesloh will be represented at the BBAG yearling sale with four yearlings, as well as at ARQANA in October through La Motteraye Consignment, with a colt by Starspangledbanner.

DEAUVILLE RING IN AUGUST
Arqana, its vendors and all of those involved in breeding in France will have been delighted to see the August sale bounce back from a disappointing renewal in 2024. The sale ended with a record aggregate of around 58 million euros, up by 18 %, and yet, the number sold, even after the private deals have been added, was the smallest this century at only 216.
IIn 2025 euros this was the fifth August sale since 2001 with an aggregate higher than 50 million euros, following 2001( 53 million in 2025 euros), 2015( 51 million), 2022( 53 million) and 2023( 55 million). The sale and its format have changed a great deal since 2001 when 371 yearlings changed hands, this was reduced to 257 in 2015, 236 and 235 in 2022 and 2023 and then only 216 this year with an average in real
