DAY 2 • Arrive in Dubrovnik, Croatia Transfer to your Dubrovnik hotel, and meet travelers on our optional pre-trip extension to Albania: Undiscovered Balkans. Meals: D | Hotel Kompas Dubrovnik or similar
DAY 3 • Dubrovnik This morning, we’ ll take a city bus to the gates of Dubrovnik’ s Old Town, where we’ ll set off on a walking tour. Then your afternoon is free for independent exploration.

DAY 4 • Dubrovnik • Kotor, Montenegro Enjoy a full-day excursion to Montenegro, where you’ ll explore Kotor, a medieval walled town and UNESCO World Heritage Site at the head of southern Europe’ s deepest natural bay. You’ ll also visit the ancient village of Perast, and ride a small boat in Kotor Bay. Meals: B | Hotel Kompas Dubrovnik or similar
DAY 5 • Dubrovnik • Mount Srd • Controversial Topic: The Balkan War & Dubrovnik • Farmstead visit Take a drive up Mount Srd for panoramic views of Old Town and the Adriatic. Then, visit the Croatian War of Independence Museum and speak with a resident about the Controversial Topic of the lasting divisions created during this violent period. After, visit the rural Konavle region for a wine tasting, music performance, and farmstead dinner. Meals: B, D | Hotel Kompas Dubrovnik or similar
DAY 6 • Transfer to Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina • Mostar En route to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia & Herzegovina, stop in Mostar, whose 16th-century bridge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mostar is actually named after the former watchtower keepers( mostari in Bosnian) of this historic bridge. Meals: B, L, D | Hotel President or similar
DAY 7 • Sarajevo Embark on a walking tour of Sarajevo. Explore the Old Town, and see examples of the city’ s Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian influences, including a 16th-century mosque complex that is considered one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture in the Balkans. We’ ll also visit the Austrian quarter, and the historic Latin Bridge— where an assassination sparked World War I. Meals: B | Hotel President or similar
DAY 8 • Sarajevo Tunnel • Home-Hosted Dinner Today, we focus on Sarajevo’ s more recent past, including the aftermath of Yugoslavia’ s break-up in 1992. We’ ll visit the Sarajevo Tunnel, a passage dug in 1993 to ferry people out and bring supplies into the city. Tonight, sit down for a Home- Hosted Dinner with families who lived along“ Sniper Alley” during the war. Meals: B, D | Hotel President or similar
DAY 9 • Karanac, Croatia • Dinner with local families Journey overland to Croatia’ s province of Baranja, an important part of Croatia’ s“ breadbasket.” Then, in Karanac, join a local family for dinner in their home and spend the night at the farmstead.

DAY 10 • A Day in the Life of Karanac village • Transfer to Zagreb Before breakfast, we’ ll experience A Day in the Life of the village when we help out our hosts around the farm. Then, we’ ll meet a local pottery
