ITINERARY

DAY 1 • Depart U.S.

Fly to Argentina on an overnight flight.

DAY 2 • Arrive in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Arrive in Argentina's capital, and meet your Trip Experience Leader and fellow travelers, including those who took the pre-trip extension to Santiago & Easter Island's Sacred Sites.

DAY 3 • Buenos Aires • Controversial Topic: Argentina's Dirty War • Tango lesson

Explore Buenos Aires' bustling center, from the Plaza del Mayo to Avenido 9 de Julio. Next, discuss the Controversial Topic of the tens of thousands of people who were kidnapped, tortured, or killed during the Dirty War-the infamous campaign waged from 1976 to 1983 by Argentina's military dictatorship. Then stroll through the colorful La Boca artists' district. Later, put on your dancing shoes for a tango lesson.

DAY 4 • Buenos Aires • Paraná Delta tour

Visit the famed Recoleta cemetery to visit renowned activist Eva Perón's grave. Then, take a river boat tour to discover life in the Paraná Delta.

DAY 5 • Bariloche

Fly to Bariloche. Set along the banks of the 40-mile-long Lake Nahuel Huapi, Bariloche is known for its festive alpine feel.

DAY 6 • Bariloche • Craft brewery

Take a chairlift ride over the picturesque Lakes District, and hike at Brazo Tristeza along the shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi. Then, see how Bariloche's home-grown ingredients are used to brew beer at a family-owned craft brewery.

DAY 7 • Bariloche • Horseback ride and family lunch on the Patagonian steppe • Optional Limay River float

Visit a local family in their home on the Patagonian steppe this morning, learn about their way of life, and mount up for a horseback ride. Enjoy a barbecue lunch with the family in their home. Then, enjoy an afternoon at leisure. Or you might choose to join our optional raft excursion along the Limay River.

DAY 8 • Puerto Varas, Chile

We cross the Andes-and the border-and travel into Chile. Arrive in Puerto Varas this afternoon.

DAY 9 • Puerto Varas • Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park • GCF visit: COMBAS fine arts school • Home-Hosted Dinner

Enter Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, and take a walk near the Petrohue Falls, where clear blue chutes of water flow over the unique volcanic landscape. Then, visit COMBAS, a music school supported by  Grand Circle Foundation, before joining a local family for a Home-Hosted Dinner.

On Day 7, visit a local family living on the Patagonian steppe, where we'll enjoy a horseback ride followed by a lamb barbecue dinner.

DAY 10 • Chiloé Island • Castro

Take a ferry ride to Chiloé Island off Chile's coast. Then, transfer overland to the island's capital city, Castro. After stopping at San Francisco Church-a UNESCO World Heritage Site-and catching a glimpse of the island's iconic stilt houses, enjoy a free afternoon in Castro.

DAY 11 • Castro • A Day in the Life of the Rilan community

Experience A Day in the Life of the Rilan community on Chiloé Island, off Chile's Pacific Coast. After touring the town, join your hosts at their home to help with farm chores, discuss local life, and prepare a traditional meal called a curanto, which we'll share with them for lunch.

ADVENTURE HIGHLIGHT

On Day 11, we'll spend A Day in the Life of the Rilan community on Chiloé island, where we'll help with farm chores and enjoy a traditional meal with our hosts.

DAY 12 • Puñihuil Wildlife Reserve • Punta Arenas

Visit the Puñihuil Wildlife Reserve to spot wildlife such as sea otters and penguins. Later, take a ferry back to the mainland and fly to Punta Arenas.

DAY 13 • Torres del Paine National Park • Hike near Lago Grey

Travel to Torres del Paine, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Site. Join an elective hike along the shores of Lago Grey, where gigantic blue icebergs rest against sandy beaches while the Grey Glacier stretches into the distance.

DAY 14 • Torres del Paine National Park

Explore the pristine environment of Torres del Paine today with a duo of included hikes that take us beneath the Paine Massif and to the Salto Grande waterfall. Enjoy a boxed lunch in the park, with views of the towering peaks of the surrounding mountains.

DAY 15 • El Calafate, Argentina

Transfer to El Calafate, Argentina, a town that serves as the gateway to Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. En route, enjoy views of the Patagonian steppes.

DAY 16 • El Calafate • Ranch visit

We'll visit a Patagonian ranch this morning, where we'll enjoy a barbecue lunch. The remainder of the day is yours.

DAY 17 • Los Glaciares National Park

Begin a full-day excursion to Los Glaciares National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover Perito Moreno Glacier, towering nearly 200 feet above Lake Argentino. Enjoy a boxed lunch by Perito Moreno, then continue your explorations in the park before returning to El Calafate.

DAY 18 • Buenos Aires • Return to U.S.
