Arrive in Keflavik, Iceland in the early morning hours. Transfer to Selfoss, and meet fellow travelers who took our Westman Islands: Volcanic Landscapes & Puffins pre-trip extension. Gather for a Welcome Dinner this evening.

Visit a local wool studio for an interactive session on wool-dying, spinning, and knitting. Because of our small group size, we'll be able to help craft wool products using traditional techniques and speak openly with the studio owner about the Icelandic wool industry. Then discover Iceland's Golden Circle, a ring of natural highlights: Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot spring area, and Thingvellir National Park. This afternoon, return to Selfoss.

Begin your day with a visit to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, a 180-foot thundering cascade shrouded in great clouds of mist. Later, travel to Vik Village and experience the rugged Icelandic landscape by Super Jeep. We may drive to the dormant glacier of Kotlujokull, or alternatively, we'll head to Hofdabrekku Heidi Mountain.

Travel to a family-run farm in Daeli for our A Day in the Life overnight experience. Meet members of the owner's family and learn about their small businesses. You'll also have the opportunity to meet Icelandic horses first brought to the country by Viking settlers.

On Day 5, you'll experience A Day in the Life of rural Iceland when you spend the night at an Icelandic horse farm, where you'll have the opportunity to participate in daily tasks.
Travel to Siglufjordur, a fishing village along the northern coast. Here, you'll visit the Herring Era Museum, the largest maritime museum in Iceland. Witness eleven different types of boats, a documentary about herring fisheries, and more. Then, travel to Akureyri, Iceland's second-largest urban area, and visit the local botanical gardens.

Visit Hverabraud, where we'll observe how locals harness geothermal energy to make homemade bread. Then, discover the Lake Myvatn area, the pseudo-crater field at Skutustadir, and the "black castle" lava formations of Dimmuborgir. Later, stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Namafjall geothermic area and Godafoss Waterfall before returning to Akureyri for a Home-Hosted Dinner.

Board a restored fishing vessel in Dalvik for a whale-watching excursion. The onboard staff members are experts on local marine life, and with their help, we'll try to spot minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises, and humpback whales. Later, return to Akureyri.

Fly back to Reykjavik and visit Perlan, a modern, interactive museum that showcases Iceland's fascinating natural wonders, from the geothermal forces beneath the earth, to the icy glaciers that cover the surface.

On Day 4, embark on a memorable Super Jeep tour, an off-road excursion through Iceland's rugged volcanic moonscapes.
Visit the Hellisheidarvirkjun Geothermal Power Plant, where we'll learn about energy production in Iceland. We'll continue to the Árbæjarsafn open-air historical museum in Reykjavik to gain insight into the living and working conditions of Icelanders in the past.

Enjoy a relaxing dip in the famed Blue Lagoon. The water in the lagoon-comprised of 70% sea water, 30% fresh water and maintained at a steady 100°F-is rich in blue-green algae, mineral salts and silica mud, all of which exfoliate the skin and leave it feeling smooth. For those who prefer an alternative to soaking, this complex also features restaurants, a hotel, a spa, steam rooms, a sauna, and even a waterfall that provides a hydraulic massage.
