IN THE EYE OF
SHAI DAHAN
BY PAULINE BOULC’ H MASCARET
“ My dream would be for one of my horses to appear at Paris Fashion Week.” Shai Dahan got his start on the streets of New York, eventually taking part in the Underbelly Project alongside 99 other carefully selected street artists, gathered in an abandoned subway station to give free rein to their creativity. It proved to be a real springboard in the career of this artist, who fell in love with horses during his first visit to Sweden.“ The Dala was the first thing I saw when I arrived. Horses were always depicted in a very square and angular way, and I wanted to revisit them with more realistic inspirations. The Dala offers a fantastic range of expression, with colors and patterns that can be endlessly reinterpreted. It allows messages of equality and peace to be conveyed, and of what the world should be, regardless of people’ s color.” Shai Dahan placed his remarkable Dala on the walls of Brooklyn, on an 18-meterhigh building, creating an incredible buzz on social media and throughout the Swedish press. He broke his own record last summer with a 45-meter creation on a building in Gothenburg, Sweden.“ The eye was the size of a window, and when you’ re perched up there painting, you tell yourself you have to follow your instinct until you see the final result. Art is a beautiful lesson in life.” It was also in this same Swedish city that the artist created a collection of lifesize horse statues made of fiberglass, commissioned by the FEI for the Gothenburg Horse Show. These spectacular works were sold, with all proceeds donated, at the request of this committed artist, to a hospital working to fight childhood cancer.

INNOVATING THROUGH PASSION
GALORAMA resonates with the emotions that horse racing inspires. The striking beauty of a horse at full gallop, the adrenaline of competition, and the passionate daily work of a whole team of men and women with diverse talents. These are the emotions that fuel passion and win over new enthusiasts. Since the beginning of the year, GALORAMA L’ Imprimé has embraced this vision with a quarterly publication available at newsstands, dedicated to horses, to all equestrian and racing disciplines, and to lifestyle. The second issue was released last month and notably explores the close relationship between horse and art, the latter inhabiting the most secret architectures of our imagination since the Paleolithic era. Across the centuries, from the Lascaux Caves to the present day, the horse unfolds its full symbolic and aesthetic power. GALORAMA has also continued its ambitious policy of innovation and, in April, returned to its first love, photo and video, by unveiling the first episode of its program GALORAMA Inside. Airing every two weeks on our YouTube channel, this long-format highlights the people and horses that have stirred the past fortnight. Nemone Routh, racing manager for the Aga Khan Studs, joined Katherine Ford on the inaugural set in the heart of the Aiglemont stables, the day after the splendid seasonal return of Daryz, winner of last year’ s Qatar Prix de l’ Arc de Triomphe( Gr. 1). It was an opportunity to discuss Calandagan as well as Romantic Warrior, newly crowned with a fourth QEII Cup( Gr. 1) at Sha Tin. Winner of 14 Group 1 races, he is the richest horse in the world, and racing professionals shared their insights. Among other features captured by Clélia Moncorgé and Véronique Verva’ s camera: an international immersion across the Atlantic with Riley Mott and Fanny Hubart- Salmon just days before the Kentucky Derby, and a meeting with Karl Burke at ParisLongchamp to discuss his Classic hopes. Enjoy discovering and reading this new issue, which pays tribute to the Poules d’ Essai along-
