JAMES MATCHETT: INTERNAL SALES ENGINEER AND TEAM LEADER
James has been with Marantec UK for 14 years and currently works as Internal Sales Engineer and Team Leader.
He is preparing to move into a new position from September, but his current role places him at the heart of the Sales operation.
His day usually begins with Production.
“ I usually hit the ground running and I never run out of work,” James says.“ First job is to speak to Production first thing to get an idea of available capacity and start to set up the day.”
Maintaining visibility across stock levels, production capacity and wider activity helps James and the team keep customer orders moving as smoothly as possible.
His responsibilities also include supporting and developing newer members of the Sales team, checking work and handling some of the more challenging enquiries.“ I enjoy the problem solving,” he explains.“ I also love seeing the newer team members make logical leaps and grasp new ideas and concepts.”
James also runs Marantec UK’ s 3D printer farm, producing engineering-grade components and marketing materials.
After 14 years with the business, he has seen significant changes in both technology and customer expectations.
“ I’ ve seen big changes in technology particularly, CAD to 3D model, manufacturing and of course AI. Our customers expect and need new online tools to help speed up operator selection and technical advice.”
The increasing pace of the industry is reflected in many of the challenges the Sales team handles.
“ Things move fast; customers can’ t always wait. Our customers trust us with their business and projects so we cannot let them down. Attention to detail is paramount. We want every install to be right first time.”
James believes Marantec UK’ s strength lies in the expertise spread throughout the business.
“ Our sales people strive to be experts, the drives and controls knowledge in our Technical team is industry-leading, and
Production assemble, test and turn that order into reality, sometimes under very time-constrained circumstances.”
Communication between those teams is therefore critical.
“ Everyone’ s expertise plays a part in accomplishing great outcomes for our customers, so it’ s important we listen to each other.”
From September, James will begin a new chapter focused on sustainability and carbon literacy, moving away from Sales for the first time in more than 25 years.
“ I’ m looking forward to re-skilling and trying something different.”
Outside work, his interests are equally varied, ranging from computers and photography to 3D printing, winemaking, gardening, vermicomposting and amateur car servicing.
“ Everything except DIY,” he jokes,“ much to the dismay of my wife Sharon.”
For both John and James, their roles may be very different, but the common thread is clear: combining expertise, teamwork and continual improvement to give Marantec UK customers a better experience.
