AWARDS

The Tissot-Superpole Awards are earned by riders from the WorldSBK, WorldSSP, WorldSSP300 and WorldWCR classes who accrue the greatest number of points over the year in the specific Tissot-Superpole qualifying sessions. As the name suggests this initiative rewards the fastest riders in the official Tissot-Superpole Qualifying sessions. Logically enough, for any rider the aim is always to be faster than the rest, as every grid spot ahead of your opponent is another risky overtake you do not have to make in the races. The pre-race‘ game’ has always been to get up front as early as possible. In the competitive classes inside the WorldSBK paddock, this is particularly true. A relatively recent addition to the existing Tissot-Superpole Awards set-up occurs in the blue ribbon WorldSBK category alone. Points are also now awarded based on the final results of each ten-lap Tissot-Superpole‘ sprint race,’ all of which take place on Sunday mornings. The Tissot-Superpole awards are another incentive for riders to get their quest for championship points off to the best possible start, from the best possible grid position.
The Pirelli Best Lap Awards are were designed as a tangible and public reward for riders in the WorldSBK, WorldSSP, WorldSSP300 and WorldWCR categories who secure the fastest race laps in their respective classes. Pure pace over one lap in race conditions is the only measure here. The fastest rider over one lap of each‘ long’ race receives a physical trophy from Pirelli during each Paddock Show celebration. The final rankings and the overall award are given out after a full season of racing has been completed. In the unlikely event that two riders share the same total of fastest laps after the final totals are in, the rider with the greater number of lap records that year will be adjudged the Pirelli best Lap Award winner. In the WorldSBK category, which features three races in total at each round, not the two races of each other category, only the full-distance Race One and Race Two results will be considered in each rider’ s efforts to win the coveted Pirelli Best Lap Award outright. In short, the Tissot-Superpole sprint races do not count towards the overall Pirelli Best Lap Award.
