Another Moto2 rider turned official WorldSBK team regular, Lecuona has had a few bright moments in his three years inside the paddock. A factory ride for Honda is always a coveted position in any championship, but it has not been an easy path for Honda and Iker to follow. Two podium finishes (one last year, admittedly) and a Tissot Superpole ‘win’ at Catalunya in 2022 are his personal high water marks, but injury and an inconsistent package have not helped the clearly fast and talented rider maximise his potential. Always worth watching on track because of his all-action riding style.
Such are the wide-ranging capabilities of Petrucci, he is like a gilded two-wheeled chameleon. He has ridden in a vast array of championships but after starting his international career in Superstock 600 and Superstock 1000, he moved to the MotoGP™ class. He eventually won two races for Ducati. After MotoGP™ he competed in and won races in MotoAmerica, took a stage win in the famous Dakar Rally Raid and last year was victorious in all three WorldSBK races at the new Cremona Circuit. He still defies categorisation, even as he takes part in his third WorldSBK campaign.
