General secretary election – make sure you have your vote

Occupational therapists like you are enabling countless people to live independently and with dignity. You deserve that same dignity when you come to work.

That is why RCOT partners with UNISON to deliver training, support and representation in your workplace – and the systems within which you work. Working within the largest union in the NHS, you have a powerful voice.

We are coming up to an important time in UNISON, and we are calling on all RCOT members to check and update their details to ensure their voice can be heard.

This October, voting will open to elect UNISON’s General Secretary for the next five years. Every member can cast their vote in favour of their preferred candidate. To ensure you can have your say, it is vital that we hold up-to-date contact details on your record.

Shape the future of your union

UNISON is a democratic union, led by members for the benefit of members. It is by working collectively that we are able to make seismic changes that benefit you and your colleagues, along with hundreds of thousands of fellow workers across the public sector.

The benefits of union membership go far beyond support against unfair workplace treatment. When you and your colleagues come together, you can make the changes that you need to do your best work.

And when every member in UNISON comes together, you can shape your union to work best for you. From committee members, right up to the General Secretary, members decide where the union is headed. And it is vital that you make your voice heard.

Check and update your details

We are legally required to run voting for our General Secretary elections on paper. This means that to have your say, we must have your correct postal address on record. You can check and update this by heading to your member portal at
 my.unison.org.uk.

You’ll need your membership number to hand, which you can find in the footer of every email that you receive from UNISON.

If you have only recently joined RCOT it is possible your UNISON record will not yet have been created. If this applies to you, contact UNISON directly through the details below and we can manually update your details.

You should expect to receive your voting papers by post between
28 October and 10 November. If you have not received them by
11 November, please contact UNISON Direct on  0800 0857 857 and one of our helpful call handlers will be able to assist you.
