Introduction to the role and function of the occupational therapy expert witness

Occupational therapists play a fundamental role in clinical negligence and personal injury litigation cases by providing expert opinion to assist the courts in reaching decisions.
This online course, run by experienced Somek OT expert witnesses, will provide information on the OT expert witness role (from preparing reports to giving evidence in court ), the legal framework, rules and principles that govern practice.

Risk assessments for OTs

Remote course
This course will consider the use of risk assessment as a tool to assist with clinical decisions as an OT working in the community. It covers principles of risk assessment and management, how to risk assess to help with best interest decisions, functional assessments and provision of equipment or adaptations. This course is for OTs thinking of moving into independent practice . We cover the financial , legal and sales advice you need to be an independent OT, including bookkeeping, tax, VAT, getting paid, insurance, liability, finding customers what work is there for OTs, how to calculate your rate. Trusted Assessor – Assessing for minor adaptations (Level 3)
2 and 3 December 2025 London
Do you work in a role that involves visiting people at home? Join us on this popular two-day course designed to train and accredit a range of staff as Trusted Assessors. Learners are taught to assess, measure for, and prescribe a range of minor aids and adaptations through a blend of theory and hands-on use of equipment and to know when to refer to an occupational therapist (OT) for more complex cases. This is an all-new course accredited by OCN London at level three designed to be in line with the national qualification. Our trainers are OTs with extensive experience in home adaptations. Learners then have an assignment to complete to achieve accreditation. The course is also available as an eLearning course and in a blended learning format, talk to us to find out more.
