Yari Montella- Barni Spark Racing Team
Yari’ s very first WorldSSP experiences were with the GMT94 Yamaha team, finishing tenth and then sixth at Portimao in 2021. He came into WorldSSP full-time with the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing squad in 2022 and scored multiple podiums.
Snapped up by the Barni Spark Racing Ducati squad for two WorldSSP campaigns, he didn’ t win WorldSSP last season, but he won seven races. A promotion into WorldSBK soon followed.
So, what has it been like for Yari in this paddock?
“ I was in the MotoGP™ paddock for a few races in Moto2, and the atmosphere is much different,” said Yari.“ Here it is much more … human. You can work with people who really like what they are doing, and you can feel that difference. When you come into the box and there are people there who really want to stay there working for you, with you, it makes you happy and proud of what you have in that moment.”
Yari also feels lucky to have worked with the people he has been partnered with since he first came to WorldSSP.“ I have always worked in WorldSBK inside a team with a great atmosphere. I remember also with Kawasaki Puccetti( in WorldSSP) and then with Barni Spark Racing, you talk with the owner of the team. He is there working for you, asking you questions to understand things- you feel like they really want you there. That is a great thing.”
Yari legelső Supersport-vb élményeit a GMT94 Yamaha csapattal szerezte, ahol 2021-ben Portimaóban az első versenyen tizedik, a másodikon hatodik helyen végzett. 2022-ben teljes Supersport-vbszezonra érkezett a Kawasaki Puccetti Racing csapatához, és több dobogós helyezést is szerzett.
A Barni Spark Racing Ducati csapata két Supersport-vb szezonra is lecsapott rá. 2024-ben igaz nem nyerte meg a Supersport világbajnoki címét, de hét futamot nyert. Így hamarosan feljutott a Superbike-vb-be.
Szóval, milyen Yari számára ebben a depóban?
„ Voltam néhány futamon a MotoGP™ depójában a Moto2-ben, és a légkör egészen más” – mondta Yari. „ Itt sokkal … emberibb. Olyan emberekkel dolgozhatsz, akik igazán szeretik, amit csinálnak, és érezheted a különbséget. Amikor bejössz a boxba, és ott vannak olyan emberek, akik tényleg ott akarnak maradni és neked, veled dolgozni, az boldoggá és büszkévé tesz arra, ami abban a pillanatban van.”
Yari is szerencsésnek érzi magát, hogy azokkal az emberekkel dolgozhatott, akikkel a Supersport-vb-hez érkezése óta közel áll. „ A Supersport-vb-ben mindig nagyszerű légkörű csapaton belül dolgoztam. Emlékszem a Kawasaki Puccettinél( a Supersportvb-ben), majd a Barni Spark Racingnél is, beszélhettél a csapat tulajdonosával. Ott van, és neked dolgozik, kérdéseket tesz fel, hogy megértse a dolgokat – úgy érzed, hogy tényleg ott akar lenni. Ez nagyszerű dolog.”
