My Campus, My Design

O
n the morning of November 8th, there was a
special sharing session held in the nap room
of Ivy Academy Sanlitun Campus. Two young
Daystar students showcased a bed sheet that
they had personally designed for Ivy students, and spoke
with confidence and composure. The presentation was
especially meaningful, as the sister and brother duo
were alumni from Ivy Academy!
All the children present listened attentively and bursts
of laughter could be heard every now and then. The
two speakers were Bernadette van Lawick van Pabst
(grade four) and her younger brother Diederik van
Lawick van Pabst (grade two). Both students from
Daystar Academy are bedding designers of Ivy Education
Group’s kindergarten.
Almost all the bedding in kindergartens are purchased
and printed and dyed in a centralized way, using the
same color and pattern. As a result, this has reduced
the personal touch and individuality of kindergartens.
In light of this, Ivy Education Group came up with a new
idea about the bedding design for this school year—why
not let children design their own bedding? What better

way to unleash children’s creativity than to have them
design their own environment?
Jack Hsu, CEO of Ivy Education Group, endorsed this idea
and immediately thought of Bernadette and Diederik
who had participated in numerous design competitions
and have won prizes. Bernadette and Diederik’s
enthusiasm and extraordinary talent for art are well-
known throughout Ivy. Upon Jack’s kind invitation, the
two students happily accepted and expressed their
keenness to support their old school. They said that
their fond memories for Ivy and expectations for the
future had taken root in their hearts like a growing
seed.
In the days that followed, both students sought
inspiration in the school’s art classroom, collected
materials while brainstorming with their classmates,
and talked about the design plan with each other at
home. When they presented the final design, everyone
was touched by the design’s warmth and innocence.
