IVY ACADEMY
Bernadette mostly draws her inspirations from school
and the art classroom. She also enjoys creating artistic
works at home and shared them with her family and
classmates when she completes one. With guidance and
encouragement, her creative passion has constantly
been fueled by a supportive environment, from her
family, to her friends and to her school. From simple
cartoons to more complex line drawings, her love for
art is growing day by day, and she has found a wider
channel to express her artistic urge.
flow of time, a smiling earth that greets children’s
smiling faces, along with notes, hearts and seedlings
scattered all around; these icons are constantly present
in children’s innocent and tranquil world. Isn’t this a
beautiful picture? We are sure the sheets with this
design will bring warmth and comfort to the little ones
who are staying warm in them.
Innovation & Creativity Everywhere
As the children shared more during the session, we
gradually learned more about their background. It
turned out that from the time Bernadette and Diederik
were young, they showed great artistic talent.
Diederik displayed artistic tendencies from when he
was very young. He began to draw inspiration from
books and the surrounding environment even at the
age of 4–5. He especially likes ships, castles and battle
scenes, and every single detail is portrayed vividly and
accurately in his paintings. He once participated in a
painting competition and drew an extremely exquisite
ship. The construction of the hull, the movements and
expressions of characters and the entire movie-like
scene in the painting is breathtaking. Carrying the
dream of this young boy, the big ship may sail to the
open sea or leap into outer space. The most important
thing was to keep on dreaming.
In a mask design competition run by British company
Cambridge Mask Co,, Bernadette designed a mask that
the judging committee loved. The unconstrained ideas
and rich colors made Bernadette ‘s design unique, She
came first in her category, and her design went on to
be produce for sale, and was very popular. Her reward
was a helicopter flight over the Great Wall of China! Of
course, she said that she is most proud of being able to
design a bedding for her own school and kindergarten
students that everyone can enjoy. It warms her’s and
Diederik’s hearts every time they see smiling faces in
the nap room where children are sleeping, tucked in by
bedding that they have designed.
Let Your Imagination Take Flight
In recognition of Bernadette and Diederik’s contribution
to the campus, Mr. Hsu presented the two young
designers with tokens for our appreciation—a set of
bedding designed by them, a carefully designed thank-
you certificate and a design bonus. Everyone was
pleased to see their artistic talent shine on Daystar
campus. Moreover, he also encouraged every student
to pursue their passion with diligence and confidence.
Ivy and Daystar will continue to support students by
providing them with more opportunities to develop
their talents.
This painting won the grand prize at a painting
competition. Apart from a wonderful trip to Hainan,
Diederik also won a big trophy and a Polaroid camera.
Diederik said he wants to take more beautiful photos
with the camera and discover a bigger world.
