Приветствуем вас на страницах журнала « Русский Город »! В этот раз я решила, что в летнее время уместно поговорить с вами на тему о « garage sales ». Эта чисто американская форма индивидуальной торговли ненужными для дома вещами увлекает очень многих своей неожиданностью и дешевизной. Давайте прочитаем, как Джек отправился на garage sale.
До сих пор все тексты, которые вы читали, были построены только на настоящем времени. Настало время обратиться к прошедшему времени.
Èòàê, êðàòêàÿ ãðàììàòè ÷ åñêàÿ ñïðàâêà:
По способу образования прошедшего времени все глаголы в английском языке делятся на правильные и неправильные. Как следует из названия, правильные глаголы образуют прошедшее время по одному и тому же правилу или образцу, а неправильные глаголы образуют прошедшее время не по одному и тому же правилу или образцу.
Правильные глаголы – прибавляют окончание – ed для образования прошедшего времени. Например: close – closed, open – opened, play – played, want- wanted, need- needed, work – worked и т. д.
Неправильные глаголы – в прошедшем времени каждый неправильный глагол имеет свою собственную форму. Например: find – found [ faund ], buy – bought [ bo: t ], go – went и т. д.
В вопросительной и отрицательной формах мы употребляем вспомогательный глагол did и первоначальную форму глагола. Например: Did you close the door? Where did you work before? What did you buy? How much did you pay? или I did not( didn’ t) go there. He did not( didn’ t) like garage sales. Ниже я привожу правильные и неправильные глаголы, которые встречаются в тексте. Пожалуйста, поработайте с ними отдельно: придумайте любое утвердительное, вопросительное или отрицательное предложение с каждым из них. Особенно обратите внимание на неправильные глаголы.
REGULAR VERBS:( ïðàâèëüíûå ãëàãîëû) 1. to look out – looked out( выглянул) 2. to enjoy – enjoyed( наслаждался) 3. to like – liked( нравилось) 4. to cross – crossed( пересек) 5. to pick up – picked up( взял в руки) 6. to ask – asked( спросил) 7. to answer – answered( ответил) 8. to start – started( начал) 9. to recognize – recognized( узнал) IRREGULAR VERBS:( íåïðàâèëüíûå ãëàãîëû) 1. to find – found( нашел) 2. to buy- bought( купил) 3. to think – thought( подумал) 4. to say – said( сказал)
5. to sell – sold( продал) 6. to have – had( имел) 7. to put – put( положил) 8. to give – gave( дал) 9. to go – went( пошел)
A GARAGE SALE
It was Saturday. Jack looked out his window. He saw that his neighbors from across the street Jim and Tammy were having a garage sale. Jack liked garage sales. He enjoyed buying things cheap. Sometimes he could find something really good for really little money. Last year he found a good alarm clock for a dollar, a beautiful blue umbrella for a dollar and a half, and a couple of very interesting books for fifty cents each.
A few months ago he bought several useful tools for five dollars and a crystal vase for ten dollars.
Jack crossed the street. There were many people there. Jack picked up a lamp. It was beautiful and practically new. « It looks like my old lamp and it will match my livingroom furniture » thought Jack.
« Tammy, does the lamp work?» asked Jack.
« No », answered Tammy. « Its broken. But you can have it really cheap and fix it, I know you are handy ».
« How much is it?» asked Jack.
Answer the Questions on the Text: 1. Who was having a garage sale? 2. Where was a garage sale? 3. How far was a garage sale from Jack’ s house? 4. What day of the week was it? 5. What are the names of the people who were having a garage sale? 6. Did Jack like garage sales? 7. Why did Jack like garage sales? 8. What did Jack find at the garage sales last year? 9. How much did Jack pay for the crystal vase? 10. How much did he pay for the umbrella? 11. How much did he pay for the books? 12. How much did he pay for the tools? 13. Were the tools useful? 14. How much did he pay for the alarm clock? 15. What did Jack like this time? 16. Was the lamp broken? 17. Did the lamp work?
« You can have it for seven dollars and fifty cents and not a penny less » answered Tammy.
« Hmmm … Seven dollars and fifty cents …» thought Jack. On one hand, it is a bargain for seven dollars and fifty cents, on the other hand it is broken.»
« I don’ t know what to do » said Jack looking at the lamp. « Tammy, wait a second!
Isn’ t it the lamp that I sold you last year for five dollars when I had a garage sale? Of course, it is the same lamp!» Both Tammy and Jack started laughing. They both recognized the lamp.
« OK » said Tammy. Take your lamp back for nothing, fix it and enjoy it.
It will be my gift. She put it into the plastic bag and gave it to Jack.
« Thank you » answered Jack. He took the lamp and went home.
« Another bargain » thought Jack. « I like garage sales ».
