ΑΠΟΤΥΠΩΜΑΤΑ of the Unknown Soldier . Then a formal change of the guard happens and the previous Evzones leave to come others .
In general , the Evzones of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stay unmoved for 1 hour with the only allowed move being to blink their eyes . Every time , there are 2 Evzones in the memorial , one in the right and one in the left part of it . This aims mainly to make the preorganized movements of the change of the guard look more symmetrical and therefore more fascinating .
A soldier is also there to protect the Evzones from disturbing individuals who want to distract the Evzones to break the rule of non-movement . When this one hour passes , two more Evzones are there and the Evzones start moving . They follow the preorganized moves and as they stop , the two new Evzones are in place for the 1-hour non-movement and the other two have left .
The Evzones of the Presidential Guard are volunteers from the land army and undergo a five-week strict preparation before they undertake their duty . During this preparation they learn how to parade , to do the moves of the change of the guard simultaneously and to stay unmoved for one hour . To be accepted they also need to meet some requirements . They mostly need to be higher than 1.87 meters , to have proper physical condition and a good character .

The Evzone ’ s Uniform is a really complex uniform , consists from several parts and has a formal and an every-day variation . The formal variation is used in Sundays and National Celebrations , whereas the every-day variation is the normal uniform used from Monday to Saturday .
The formal variation is more complex than the every-day one and has more parts than the latter . Some of the parts of the formal variation are the following : The fustanella is a white , skirt-like cloth with 400 folds on it . The number of folds is thought to represent the 400 years of Ottoman Dominance over Greece . The fario ( written in Greek as φάριο ) is the red “ hut ” of the Evzones made with felt (= τσόχα ) and has the Greek National Emblem on it . The shirt has a wide sleeve opening and is colored white , with the white color symbolizing the purity of Greek fights . The Fermeli is covered with symbols of a laographic meaning made with a combination of white and gilt (= covered with gold ) threads . One of these symbols is the combination of the letters “ Χ ” and “ Ο ”, witch in all likelihood stand from the phrase “ Χριστιανός Ορθόδοξος ”, the Greek phrase
