Harvard University students stormed
the Yard and pitched tents to protest in
solidarity with the Occupy movement that swept the nation in 2011. In
response, the University closed most of
the gates into the Yard due to perceived
safety concerns for the students. In
order to enter Harvard Yard, all
Harvard-affiliated individuals must show
their Harvard IDs. Occupy Harvard
inhabited the Yard through Thanksgiving until the beginning of winter
break. The student Occupy movement
continued to maintain its voice on
campus through protests against the
University’s library reorganization in
2012.
