early action returns Harvard’s Early Action program returned to the College in 2011 after a four year absence. Admissions admitted 772 students via Early Action in 2011 for the Class of 2016, and 895 in 2012 for the Class of 2017. One of the cited concerns about Early Action, along with how stressful and complex the process had become for students, had been its lack of diversity. Consequently, Harvard stated that, due to their extended outreach effort, their Early Action class during the 2011 admissions process was more diverse than any Early Action cohort that had come before. ROTC returns In 2011, President Obama repealed the controversial military policy Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, allowing service members of all sexual orientations to serve openly in the United States military. In response, President Drew Faust welcomed the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) back to campus after a four-decade long absence that began with tensions built over the Vietnam War and continued due to the military’s discriminatory policies. 2011 Page No. Job No.: 030426 COLOR Special Events Run Prepare for Submission for Color ID information.
