Good News Stories

Some great stories from other young people, hopefully inspiring success in others.
I came to Young Devon because I didn’ t really know what to do next. I know my dreams but knowing how to get there is different. I see myself as quite a confident person with young people, so I want to work with young people. With the skills that I have learnt through Young Devon, I have realised that I want to work for Young Devon now. We’ ve done all sorts of stuff with Young Devon; community projects, residential trips and lots of paperwork. Lots of different stuff, basically. Just building our inner self esteem, working on our confidence, building up the person and making sure we know what to give to employers when looking for a job. I’ m going to work really hard to achieve my dream of working with young people.
I started with a sailing course, which encouraged me to try other things that were available. I was looking for work but I’ m here to seek help in doing so; as it’ s really difficult to get into work. Young Devon have helped me to understand what I want to do. I‘ m more knowledgeable in team building now and general work based activities have helped me understand what is required of me. Im more confident now and I feel I can attack tasks head on as I’ m more independent. I want a job in construction or something on the water; I have a keen interest in sailing now, thanks to Young Devon and I’ d like to try a career in working on boats abroad. I feel that Young Devon have helped me to become more able to achieve my dreams, where I probably wouldn’ t have before.
