In January 1963 it was decided to apply for a licence to dredge the holding area of the 5.5 meae hardsrand area and to accepr the pennissive occupancy of this area granted by the Lands Oeparunent A contract for the dredging was drawn up .
A sad moment occurred on 2 May 1964 when J . A . Kyd . who had been Secrelary of the club for27 years , tendered his resignation with regret He requested this take effect at the earliest convenience of the Commiuee .
On 8 August 1963 the Yachting World Keelboat Association applied for a special division . The request was deferred pending a conference between the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron , the Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club and the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club .
This year also saw lhe International Starboat Association hard at work raising money 10 send the Starboat Aralwo / a ( Martin Visser and Dick Gilkes } to Chicago for the world championships .
By mid-1963 the 5.5 metre hardstand , as it bad become k . nown , was ready for occupancy-or nearly so , if one wanted to wait for high water to overcome the problem in that the base of the slip had still not been dredged owing to a contractor ' s tnrdiness . The
5.5 metre yachts were stored on it and , other than providing safety guards against the 5.5 meae class Owner $ damaging boats or themselves . everything
was set to go . Toc1 :. y , whilst this area is still referred to quite
correcily as the • 5.5 hardstand ', there are far greater number $ or other yachts-Etchells . Dragons and Stars-using this excellent facility which has been dramatically improved overtbe years . It is hoped that it will forever be referred toa .~ the ' 5.5 hardstand ' in honour of lhese magnificent racing yach1s in which club members have excelled both in Australia and overseas .
The fim trickle of revenue , which up until that time had been restricted 10 such things as house profits ( if any ), race en1rance fees , subscription and entrance fees , and mooring fees , started to come in from the marinas and hardstand fees .
The club had now been in existence for 96 years and the Committee were conscious of the fact that much planning would have to go into the successful running of the centenary of the club in 1967 . A special sub-committee comprising G . N . Nock , J . Pritchett . and H . Bryant was appointed to organise the publication of the history of the club up until 1967 .
And so the club went 1hrough another year of development . the Newpon clubhouse operating satisfac1orily , parking areas and roadways working well , the new marina ( Marina · A ') completed and , other than the dredging problem , the readiness of the
5.5 hardsiand area . It was also a period or consolidation : grassing areas , providing fresh piped water to the marinas , and paying for all the improvementssome £ 35 000--no mean sum in those days .
In February 1964 it was decided to appoint an Assistant Secretnry in view of J . A . Kyd ' s resignation . lt was envisaged that the Assistant Secretary would be trained by Mr Kyd . On 24 February Lloyd T . Burgess was appointed Secretary of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club as from 7 May 1964 . Mr Kyd agreed to remain in the service of the club for one month after Mr Burgess ' appointment . Mr Kyd was appointed Honorary Racing Secretary and Honorary Handicnpperfrom the date of Mr Burgess ' appointment as Secretary .
Lloyd Burgess joined the Royal Australian Naval Reserve at the outbreak of World War ll and was serving in HMAS Perth as Lieutenant Commander when she was sunk by the Japanese in the Sundrn Straits during the fall of Singapore . Lloyd survived the sinking but was taken as a prisoner of war by the Japanese . In 1949 be was appointed Secretary of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and served as Secretnry of the Australian Yachting Federation . He served as SecreiaryoftheRoyal Prince Alfred Yacht Club from 1964 up until 1972 when be resigned . Lloyd was also a member of the club and , for his services , he was elected a life member in 1972 .
By 1964 membership had increased to 1115 including associate male members ( 7 only listed as Pittwater members }, plus 209 Indy associale members listed as Pittwater associale membell .

the only pe1 $ 0nS to be referred to the election sub-committee as candidates for election as lady associates will be those falling into the categories of either wife . daughter , lllOlher or sister of a member .
It is hoped that no fancy lady or girlfriend had been admitted as an associate member of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club-Pittwater Division !
One most exciting event was W . H . ( Bill ) Northam ' s ( later Sir William Northam } win in the Australian 5.5 Meae Championships at Lake Macquarie and his selection for the honour of representing Australia at the 1964 Olympic Games at Enoshima , Japan . Martin Visser . with Tim Owens as crew . also won representation for the Olympics in his
Starboat Maryke .
At this time Rowe Street was extending a great deal of influence over the Piuwa1er Division . Piuwater assets had been transferred to Rowe Street accounts . J . A . Kyd was employed as a consultant at the time and acted in anadvisorycapacityonPi11wa- 1er administration .
Generali y , 1964 was a period of consolidnrion after the purchase of ' Moon bar ', the development of hardstand areas , the breakwater , and the marina . The club nccdcd to recover its financial position before pushing on to the next phase .
