Trench Periscope
This Trench Periscope saved lives because the soldiers were no longer a direct target for the enemy when they poked their heads out of the trench., Both sides used it. It could be extended up to 25 meters or it could be collapsed and put on a belt or a backpack. Sentries used the the parascopes to watch over the "No- Man's- Land". Periscopes could warn of incoming attack, or it could identify targets of attack. The trench periscope periscope trenchPeriscope periscope was inspired by submarine periscopes. At first, periscopes were made by materials that they had on the front lines. Later, they were made in factories. The periscopes were extra helpful in WW1 because it was the first war that they had machine guns which would be very dangerous. They inserted two miriors at a 40 degree angle at the bottom of the box or tube. The periscopes were covered in leather. Factory production began in the Untied Kingdom. In the winter, the improvised and made something called hydroscopes.
