anybody he ’ s played with , or even John , Paul , George , lyrics , he always respected the lyrics . And be careful too with volume . Because in large churches they put plexiglass around you . You might have electronic drums , but just make sure you ' re playing not too loud musically .”
TIMMY JONES ( For King and Country , Chris Tomlin ) This is a funny concept because it ' s something that I ' ve never thought of , from the perspective of church drummers or worship music or even Contemporary Christian music . Charlie Watts ’ s approach is what the drummer is supposed to do . To support a song has always been the thing that I try to go for when it comes to just kind of being in the background , not being too flashy , but making the song good and making it move … kind of propelling the song . This sort of tom build for an entire five to ten minutes in a song , never pushes the song forward .
One reason why I really love playing with Chris Tomlin is because a lot of his songs , even newer songs , still will eventually get beat … feel … where there ' s something for everybody to kind of lean into and lean on . And that ' s what Charlie had with the Stones . You know , he had a very unassuming personality . I ’ ve thought , who ' s this ? Who ' s this old guy back there , just kind of making that snare drum so loud , but playing traditional grip . He doesn ' t even look like he ' s hitting the drum that hard . But it was just the magic that he had . He let Mick and Keith and those other guys kind of have the spotlight .
That approach has gotten lost even in today ' s modern music , not just Christian music , because
