good together . So I started going back to the basics and finally came across Alleva Coppolo basses . Basically , Jimmy Coppolo is recreating the classic 60 ’ s and 70 ’ s Fender Jazz and P basses . And may I say , he ’ s nailed it ! I look for my basses to sound good acoustically . That there is a natural sound that resonates . I prefer to hear the bass for its sound and have the preamp supplement that sound .
Could a Squier get the Job done ? Yes , it could . I just recently used a Squier Affinity to prove that point . I had it professionally restrung with my strings of choice , ( Elixir Nickel 45-130 ), setup and tweaked to the max . I had to process it quite a bit in Studio One and it still wasn ’ t anywhere as comfortable as my Alleva . But it can definitely get the job done . Just takes a little more elbow grease .
[ WM ] How did you connect with Miel San Marcos ?
[ Mike ] We actually met them at their home church in San Marcos , Guatemala with Coalo Zamorano . We connected and Chris Rocha and I helped arrange some songs for their Proezas live album . I got asked to overdub all of those tracks . In 2017 , I was invited to record for the Pentecostés live album in Madison Square Garden ! What an experience !
[ WM ] What advice do you have for young players on developing their gift , but not forgetting that worship music is about serving others – and not being a rock star ?
