words came out there was like a “ Whoaaaa ” in the room , like everyone was feeling the same exact thing that I was because it was such a special moment .
So , when it was done the next day as we were getting ready and gearing up for the next city Chris and I are at lunch and he ’ s like , “ That “ Spirit of the Lord ” song is amazing . Why didn ’ t you put that on the set so we could sing it ?” And I was like , “ It wasn ’ t on the set because it doesn ’ t exist , it just kind of happened .” ( laughs ) And he ’ s said , “ Well we have to write it . We have to finish it . It has such a powerful impact !” And I was , “ I agree , let ’ s make it happen .” And it took us two years to make it happen with everybody . So , he went on a writer ’ s retreat with Ben and Ingram , and they worked on it and they came up with the chorus and another verse . Then I got together later with Jason Ingram and Seth Mosely in the studio and he ’ s like , “ I keep thinking about that “ Spirit of the Lord ” song , and I ’ ve got this nagging thought that we need to finish it , but I feel like we need to finish it with you .” It was perfect because when the first utterances of the song came out , I was in a very happy season of my life because I was pregnant with my second miracle . So , life was literally flowing through my veins when I finished it , which was when the bridge came out , I was taking my first steps out of my journey with post-partum depression and with my mental health .
I was praying for the first time to be creative and to put myself into that vulnerable position again without the fear of breaking apart at any criticism . It was powerful to me , I took it as a personal divinity of prophecy over my life because it started with “ Where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom ”, not knowing that I would need that very phrase for the next two years just to hold my head up . And it ended with “ The spirit of fear cannot live here , shame has disappeared because there is power in His presence ”, and that ’ s a perfect tie into my personal season and the people who have heard it feel their testimonies are similar , which makes me very , very , happy . Because literally where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom , and it ’ s a “ yes , and amen ” type of song .
[ WM ] Can you tell us about what it ’ s like for you leading worship in English , Spanish , or in a bi-lingual experience ? Are there different dynamics within the makeup of the varied ethnic audiences ?
[ Christine ] Absolutely ! People ’ s outward expression of their passions have a lot to do with their cultural upbringing . For American , Anglo , white , Caucasians , our culture in that respect is more reserved : don ’ t be too loud because that ’ s bad manners ; take it easy with your body movements so you don ’ t bump into someone ; and those are things that our mothers and grandmothers have instilled in us since we were kids . So , to see a regular run of the mill white person jumping around you know
