and I’ m glad now that I did, because Dylan’ s maybe the all-time great.
[ WM ] Do you know if he ever heard the“ I Want to Be a Clone” song?
[ Steve ] I can’ t imagine that he would have.( laughing) Everybody must get cloned was not my idea. It was when I went to Colorado University of Boulder and of course Boulder in the 70’ s kind of picked up where Berkeley left off in the 60’ s. And the oldest building on campus also was where they had all the biology, like stuff in jars, but they also had the film program there.
And the restroom there was ancient and it was just filled with graffiti. And so every time I would go in there, someone would have added something new. It was like just all puns on“ clone” and that’ s where I saw“ everybody must get cloned.”
[ WM ] Ah, so you borrowed it off the wall?
[ Steve ] Off the wall of Colorado University of Boulder.
[ WM ]( laughing) How do you give songwriter’ s credit to that?
[ Steve ] It’ s not really possible.
[ WM ] You can’ t share royalties with a urinal, can you?
[ Steve ] No and nobody’ s tried to track me down so far.( laughing)
[ WM ] Wild. Shifting gears some … tell us what you’ re doing at Lipscomb University. What is your role?
[ Steve ] Yeah. So, I am the filmmaker in residence and now an associate professor. It’ s like the Peter Principle where in a hierarchy you rise to the level of your incompetence.
[ WM ]( laughing) Yes, exactly.
[ Steve ] I rose all the way up to like the director of the department. But for whatever reason they like having me around. I teach classes primarily in film. And then I also brought Mike Nawrocki too as a faculty member. And I brought Charlie Peacock in to start a music program. And then after a couple years he was having some health issues so Brown Banister is now doing that.
[ WM ] All the old gang.
[ Steve ] Also Don Chaffer from Water Deep and John Thompson from True Tunes. So we’ ve got a lot of great people there.
[ WM ] That’ s quite a good experience for the students.
[ Steve ] I think so.
[ WM ] Next question. As a musician, producer and more with a range of creative activities, where do you see your faith as a believer intersecting with your art?
