that I now have a real guitar tech workstation. My wife Judy is glad that I am not using the marble table in the living room anymore – Ha! Guitars or basses fit easily as the ProRak 88 table is 81” wide. Now I can do string changes and other maintenance all right here. One of the nooks on the rack bays will easily hold my guitar tools / strings etc. keeping everything I need within reach.
This ProRak MK 88 solves so many problems of mine. One item I did add-on in the order was caster wheels($ 79). The table is made of wood and because of that it is heavy. I wanted the casters so I can move it around and vacuum under and behind it.( Cleanliness is close to Godliness:)
When the table arrived via truck it is marked
at 200lbs including the pallet it sits on. It does get lighter once you unpack it some, but it was quite the wrestling tournament getting it upstairs in my house with a landing halfway up the stairway. We had to stand it on its end and pivot to turn with it. Once in the office / studio, we attached the casters to the steel tube leg poles and connected the rest of its bracing together. Overall, it was very easy to assemble as it is designed well. This was not an IKEA challenge video … it went smoothly. It has 24” of knee room, but if you are tall in stature, they offer taller legs. The Rab Audio instruction video was very helpful. I recommend watching that twice before you start.
They make a ProRak MK61 which is not quite as wide but is made for a 61-note keyboard. I would have got that one but my keyboard is
88 keys. If you are going to have a keyboard with more piano-like action you will end up in the 88-note keys end of the pool. 61 keys are more synth-like action keyboards. Therein lies the difference.
Now that I am implementing the positive attributes of the ProRak MK 88, I am very satisfied with the desk. I have less clutter, a great place to work and I smile every time now when I walk into the home office / studio. Remember to consider shipping expenses when budgeting for this one, but I may need to revisit the website and take a hard look at the guitar rack system options. This getting organized thing can be contagious.
