A NAMM industry friend asked me one day if I was aware of RAB Audio and the good work they were doing. I replied that I have not heard about them, who were they? He told me that they made high-grade console workstations / racks, studio tables with keyboard drawers and guitar studio racking systems. I heard our friends at Sweetwater started selling them and that they have taken off and now several mainstream gear stores sell their products.
I was already intrigued 20 seconds into the conversation. My home office / studio was in serious need of de-cluttering. I went to rabaudio. com and saw several things I liked. The guitar rack systems are versatile and hold your amp heads, speaker cab, effect pedals, laptop and have a functional place to be your own guitar tech workbench as well. Wow!
But where my biggest need was a place to fit my 88-key synth keyboard. My simple studio preamps / outboard gear wasn’ t organized and in the space I had delegated to my PreSonus IRIS-8 powered monitor speakers – they weren’ t even lined up an equal height level in the room.
My humble little studio set-up was a mess and when I saw RAB Audio’ s MK 88 large studio desk I knew this was the ticket to a better focus on workspace. It has a rolling shelf that pulls out when I want to use my Roland Juno keyboard and that conceals the board on the tray underneath the tabletop when I push it back in. The measurements are 58” W x 18” D and is rated for up to 100lbs. The first big win here – I was able to remove my large keyboard stand and a small wood desk out of the room.
I don’ t even have enough gear yet to fill up the three 4U rack bays for my outboard gear( now I regret selling that Yamaha 80’ s SPX-90 digital reverb). I can organize well now the outboard gear I do have( PreSonus Audiobox USB96 and PreSonus Bluetube V2 preamp). That is the second big win. I did just realize I have an old Sony cassette deck and another Sony rackmount CD player. Those will fit nicely too. I will need to add a small mixer into the system to route everything through and there is plenty of room for that left over. This studio desk can handle everything!
The third win was an unexpected one. The table is so wide and deep even with the rack shelves
