“ MAKE ROOM ” MEREDITH ANDREWS ( FEAT . SARAH REEVES & CHRIS MCCLARNEY ) | Bruce Adolph
Meredith Andrews has graced the pages of [ WM ] several times . When we heard she had a new song releasing January 21 , 2022 we were of course interested . But when we sat down and listened to “ Make Room ”, we knew we had to ask her some questions about it .
‘ Make Room ” was written by Community Music ’ s Lucas and Evelyn Cortazio , Josh Farro and Rebekah White and Meredith ’ s version is produced by Andrew Bergthold ( We The Kingdom ) and mixed by Ainslie Grosser ( for KING & COUNTRY ). This song became an anthem for Meredith during the pandemic . After listening to it we can see why . Now , with her own collaborative version , the Dove Award winner hopes to encourage others to make space for God to move .
Let ’ s dig in a little deeper with Meredith …
[ WM ] Meredith , it is good to connect with you again . We have always appreciated your sincerity in the music you present – whether you write the song yourself , or use a song written by other folks . How did you first come across this song “ Make Room ” and what attracted you to it ?
[ Meredith Andrews ] Thanks so much for letting me share ! A few summers ago I was writing with my friends Josh Farrow and Rebekah Williams at Josh ’ s house , and at some point during our writing session they mentioned a song they ’ d recently written with Lucas and Evelyn Cortazio . I asked a couple questions about the song , but we soon moved back into writing something new . Before we wrapped our session , they invited me to a night of worship Josh and his wife were hosting in their living room that very evening . During the night of worship that included 20-30 people ( as well as the Cortazio ’ s that just happened to be in town ), they began singing this song called “ Make Room .” By the second time through the verse , I was on the floor . It was a song of absolute surrender and the cry of my heart .
[ WM ] That theme of surrender to the Lord runs through it and the song makes you just want to lay everything down and listen for the Lord ’ s direction in your life . What do you personally take way from this song ’ s intent ?
[ Meredith ] It absolutely does . I can remember many moments on my knees , singing and praying these lyrics to the Lord . Surrender isn ’ t just a one-time occurrence . It is a repeated , continual offering up and pouring out everything we are and have before Him , and the more we make surrender the constant posture of our hearts , the more we discover who God is and what He has for us .
[ WM ] Once you decided to record it yourself , you selected Sarah Reeves and ( one of our own friends ) Chris McClarney to sing on it . How did that collaboration come about ?
[ Meredith ] Chris and Sarah are both people that I have known and loved for years now . I love what both of them carry , and it seemed
