brain . “ Great is Thy Faithfulness ”. And what I love about that song is that singing about the faithfulness of God is not some groundbreaking new wave of theology . This is a very old , constant theme , that is all throughout Scripture . It ' s all throughout many songs , and the images of God ' s faithfulness and His mercy are new every morning .
Using “ morning ” as a metaphor of the constant and continuous faithfulness of God , is so amazing . I didn ' t think I was a morning person , but then I had kids , so I guess I am . I must be . I ' m up and whether you ' re awake to see the sunrise or not is irrelevant to it happening or not happening . It ’ s the challenge and the tension that we often live in . It ' s not whether God is faithful , it ' s whether-or-not we could see it and our perspective and our participation and our formation with God . God ' s faithfulness is like that .
Jesus used practical pictures all the time . You see that sparrow ? That sparrow gets everything it needs . If you can see a bird and see the faithfulness of God , you ' re on the right track . If you can see a flower and see the way that this flower is provided for , and not even Solomon , in all his splendor , was dressed like one of these . If you can see the provision and faithfulness of God and a flower , you ' re on the right track . And this song to me allows such an easy return to the constant truth that ' s always there , whether we ' re aware of it or not . Whether life is easy or hard or we are in the time of celebration or mourning , His faithfulness is closer than we think . And our invitation is to see it .
[ WM ] The video that I watched had guest Mack Brock and some other familiar faces . It was great to see Martin Cash in there , as well as in the “ Act Justly ” video !
[ Pat ] Yeah . Mack and my friend , Ben Smith , and Daniel Bashta , we all wrote that song .
We wrote that song right as the world was shutting down . So many songs were written during that time , and I think there ' s a reason . When things shake you , you tend to get down to the very root of what you believe and the very foundational things that can weather the storm of that . And so , when we sat down to write , it was simple , and there was simplicity to it . All of us were like , " We don ' t know what ' s next . There ' s a lot of things we do we don ' t know , but there ' s some things that we do know , and this is one of them ."
[ WM ] I wanted to ask you about the upcoming tour . It ' s interesting to me , because it ' s sort of multi-label artists joining together , and oftentimes that isn ’ t done . So , it ' s you and Chris ( Tomlin ), and Hillsong United , right ?
[ Pat ] Yes . That ' s correct .
[ WM ] So , what do you think about that ?
[ Pat ] Oh my gosh . I think , well , I get an opportunity to be around with people I just love and look up to . So , for me , I ' m going in with
