6:8 for me . Its simplicity is what makes it so poignant and powerful . And it ' s almost intrinsic to people everywhere , the way the verse reads . It says , " He has shown you , O mortal , what He desires ." You know , deep down , there ' s a part of you that when you see injustice , you ' re like , " No ." You feel it . When you see , or when you recognize even in yourself , moments where you ' re not walking in humility , but you ' re full of vein conceit and egocentricity and all those things , or if you see that with anybody else , you ' re like , " No , that ' s not the way . There ' s a different way ." Sometimes it ' s hard to recognize it in yourself until someone points it out lovingly , or you have an experience that shows it to you .
That ' s why that verse has grabbed me for so long and I think there ' s two basic questions in it , leading up to that verse . The question is , God , what do you care about ? God , what moves your heart ? Is it rivers of olive oil ? That ' s in the verse . Yeah . Is it mountains of sacrifices ? What is it , God , is it more worship songs ? Is that what you want ? What is it that you actually want ? And I just think the response is so beautiful , because it deals with matters of action , matters of motive , and matters of posture the way we ' re to walk . Not just what we do , but the way that we do it .
I just love that it ' s a picture of a whole life that is not compartmentalized . Does he care about the way we act ? Yes . Does he care about the way we think ? Yes . Does he care about the way that we do what we do ? Of course , he does . He cares about all of it . So , the picture
Morning by Morning of that , it all matters to God and when you see the world that way , all of life becomes this amazing encounter with the one who created us for intimacy with Him and I just find that still so powerful .
[ WM ] As I was reflecting on it a couple months ago , I thought , " Well , I sure could have saved myself a lot of trouble ." Some of the people that I ' ve worked with are the antithesis of that Scripture . I could have saved myself a lot of trouble by just saying , " bye-bye ”, and going someplace else .
But tell us about the song , “ Morning by Morning ”. It ’ s receiving radio airplay now . What ’ s the backstory on this ? How did you come to write it with your co-writers ?
