that giddy excitement . There ' s that and then there ' s that part of you that realizes that I get the opportunity to play some songs or leave worship , and I get to be in a room with people I ' ve never been with before , I have that what if anticipation ? Like , " Oh , I wonder what it ' s going to be like ." Because every night will be different . I mean , you know this .
You could play the same song at a different city every night and it still feels completely different , because it ’ s a different demographic . They ' re real people with real stories and real expectation and real faith and it keeps me leaning forward . That ' s my posture . And then I also have that feeling of weightiness that ' s like , “ Wow . These moments together . I really want to walk in that , and I don ' t want to miss it . I need it for me as much as anyone else . This isn ' t just for other people . This is for my worship ." So , yeah . I have a lot of feelings .
[ WM ] I know you ’ ve been busy introducing these songs to the church throughout the year . Can you tell straightaway which songs are going to stick ?
[ Pat ] Oh gosh , I wish I could . That would be amazing intuition . You know what I found for me , is that the songs that I ' ve needed the most in my life , have been the ones I ' ve been most excited to share . Some of the songs off the album are not feel-good songs , there ' s a lot of heavy challenge to them and what I remember from some of these nights that I had back in the fall . There are certain cities where I ' d play the song in there called “ Lightning ” and it wasn ' t received with smiles and hands up . You could feel the challenge in the room of it and I like that . I love the songs that are just like , " Oh , this is for everybody to sing ." And I also love songs that challenge me , and I think we need all of it in the right place . Everything has its place . There ' s a time for all of that , all those songs .
But gosh , some of the songs that I love leading off the album are , “ Morning by Morning ”, " As for Me and My House , We Will Serve the Lord ", “ Act Justly ”, have all been so fun to lead .
There ' s a song called “ By The Spirit ” ( Not by power , not by might , but my spirit ). So , I would say those handful of songs have been some of my constant ‘ go-to ’ ones .
[ WM ] Lastly , I want you to tell me about the Singalong Tour with Phil and Brandon . What impressed you about it all ?
[ Pat ] Well , we laughed so hard for two months straight . I mean , tears . Laughing so hard , you ' re crying . Just the camaraderie and there ' s joy already , just because they ' re such amazing guys . The whole crew was amazing who was with us . And you get little moments where there ' s that family feeling for a short amount of time . It ' s like , we ' re all this weird adopted collective family for these few weeks . And so as powerful as the nights were , there was so many moments of worship and the simplicity . Just some acoustic guitars and voices . Brandon and Phil and I are actually very different from each other . So , me being able to just stand next to them and being ministered to really by who they are and the songs that they write , and the unique thing God ' s put on their life , it ' s just like I had a front row seat . Selfishly ,
I was probably loving it the most in the whole room . And then you match moments of worship like that with just the sincerity . And the love that people have for one another , off stage as well . It ' s going to go down to my history books as one of the most special things I ' ve gotten to do .
[ WM ] It ' s interesting how important humor is on the road . Daniel Amos was the funniest band that I was ever a part of . We were just connected with humor . And so that ' s good . I ' m glad you had a great time that way and learned a lot . And yes , both Phil and Brandon are great guys . I think I told you , I ' ve known Phil ' s Dad for 55 years .
[ Pat ] That ' s so amazing .
[ WM ] Pat , It ’ s time for me to wind this down . It is again a great pleasure to visit with you ! Thank you for this time .
