The green revolution was at its best in the 1980’s but in that time period there was a slow decline of grain around the world which threatened to hurt the agriculture industry tremendously. Since grain was on the downfall scientists came up with an idea of using biotechnology in the food production.

The attempted to add vitamin A and iron to grain products and were using genetically modified substances in order for the grain to grow at a faster pace. These genetically modified foods were being grown in a wide variety of places and became a huge source of income. These GMO’s were used for several reasons and made a lot of change within the food industry. It caused crops such as wheat, tomatoes, corn and many more to grow faster, to grow bigger, and to grow in larger quantities. That all adds up to making more $$$. Nowadays genetically modified foods are everywhere around up.

They are in almost every grocery store in Canada and the citizens of Canada wouldn’t even know they are eating a genetically modified organism because it does not legally have to be marked.

Organic Farming

Organic food isn’t as common and genetically modified foods and is a smaller industry than GMO’s. Organic farming as started because consumers didn’t like the idea of eating genetically modified foods and wanted something that was naturally grown. Organic farmers stay away from pesticides, hormones, fertilizers, and anything that would make the food not natural. Organic farming is greener than growing GMO’s but it also has some setbacks. Since farmers are making less of a product and not using anything that isn’t green the organic food tends to cost more money because more time and effort is being put into it. Also since no pesticides are used sometimes crops can be eaten by animals.
