Colonialism

Colonialism is “when one country rules another and develops trade with that country for its own benefit.” Colonialism had a huge impact on economies around the world until the late 20th century. The colonial period can be tied with Europe heavily. The Europeans wanted to create trade routes with East Asia. Many countries as well as Europe were trying to find trade routes with countries so they would be able to have more power. Europe was exploring sea routes to South Africa, India, Japan, and China. While Europe became very powerful and dominant over other countries so did Spain and Portugal. Meanwhile every country wanted the ultimate power over others so this created conflict and threatened wars. There were many impacts of colonialism that we can still see today. Colonialism did some good things for the world but mostly had negative effects. Nowadays we are in a society that promotes neo-colonialism. Instead of dominating a country using force, now the richer countries help out the poor ones in exchange for some power.
