Debt
“ No one can serve two masters , for either he will hate the one and love the other , or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other . You cannot serve God and money .” Matthew 6:24 ESV .
“ Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment , for we brought nothing into the world , and we cannot take anything out of the world . But if we have food and clothing with these we will be content . But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation , into snare , into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction . For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evils . It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs .” 1 Timothy 6:6-10 ESV .
“ The rich rules over the poor , and the borrower is the slave of the lender .” Proverbs 22:7 ESV
Our debt based monetary system in America has made it common to take out debt and be told it is right and good . We have strayed far from the path of righteousness in this area and have built ourselves a beautiful golden calf of money for everyone in the world to see . I believe the above verses are very good examples of God ' s will in our lives and need to be taken more seriously .
As humans we are built to conquer and succeed , it is in our nature . Thinking of it from that perspective it is easy to imagine why people get so caught up in finding ways to make more money , or expanding their businesses . Climbing the corporate ladder has become a favored phrase and in fact an excuse for certain persons to not take time out of their days to spend with their families or rest themselves . It has also become synonymous for those persons to lose their families and the entirety of their personal lives . This is a very sad picture . God ' s view is , people are slaves for entering into an agreement where you cannot afford the object you are buying . Credit is something man created , not God . He views it as serving money and ourselves not Him , and knows that path will only lead to destruction . There are verses all over the Bible that clearly portray the path of a rich man as a fool and will only end in death . The above are the best examples I know of and they are startling if read in view of the debt a person already has . They are common verses and often the full meaning of their truths are brushed over .

“ Buying things you cannot afford only proves that you are placing money before God and you cannot love both .”
Buying things you cannot afford only proves that you are placing money before God and you cannot love both . It also serves to place you as a slave to society . The money you do work for is not yours until you pay off every cent of debt you owe . This is the way God would have it if one already has debt . There is no other answer , there is no bankruptcy or start over option in God ' s book . The money you owe is your responsibility and you are accountable to return what you took . I also submit that I think it is not possible for a person to fully serve God if they have debt . He does not accept the tarnished worship of a lost believer . He only accepts the perfect worship of a person covered in Christ and
