Long Island had its 11-game home win streak snapped by Quinnipiac, 78-73, at the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center. Junior Jaytornah Wisseh scored a game-high 27 points and helped LIU (14-13, 10-6) cut the de?cit to one with 18 seconds to play, but could get no closer. Quinnipiac broke a 61-61 tie with 4:34 to play on a three-pointer by Bryan Geffen and never trailed again. A pair of foul shots by sophomore David Hicks got LIU within one, but the Bobcats answered with a three-point play from Jeremy Baker to push the margin back to four. A three-pointer by Wisseh made it 67-66, but a layup by Justin Rutty and jumper from Geffen put the Blackbirds down ?ve with 1:40 to play. A layup by freshman Lucas Faggiano and a three-point play from Wisseh book-ended a jumper from Baker to make it 73-71 with 31 seconds left. After a foul shot by Geffen, Wisseh answered with a pair of foul shots with 18 seconds to play to make it 74-73. LIU nearly stole the inbounds pass, but came up empty-handed and QU iced the game with four foul shots down the stretch. Wisseh hit 7-of-14 from the ?eld and was 11-of-11 from the foul line to lead the way. Sophomore Kyle Johnson and junior Aurimas Adomaitis added 11 and 10 points, respectively. LIU built a 40-36 lead at halftime after shooting 56.0 percent in the opening period. A layup by senior Ron Manigault put the Blackbirds ahead, 12-10, at the 16:12 mark, but the Bobcats countered with a 12-0 run to take the lead. Rutty scored six points in the run, including the last four in a row to make it 22-12. Manigault ended the run with a short jumper to ignite an 11-0 run to give LIU a brief 23-22 lead. Wisseh scored his ?rst points with 6:08 to play in the ?rst half and ran off 10 straight for LIU to build a 36-31 lead that it would maintain into the break. LIU led by as much as ?ve points in the second half and managed to take its ?nal lead of the day at 61-60 with 6:49 after Wisseh rattled off four straight points. Rutty led Quinnpiac with 23 points and 16 boards as the Bobcats shot 57.1 percent in the second half and 51.7 percent for the game.
