Administrative Practices - an introduction to administration within organisations
IT Solutions for Administrators – develop skills in IT and organising and processing information
Communication in Administration – use IT for gathering and sharing information with others
Rationale
Purpose and Aims
The key purpose of this course is to develop learners administrative and IT skills.
Learners will:
develop an understanding of administration in the workplace and key legislation affecting
organisations and employees
develop an appreciation of good customer care
develop IT skills
acquire organisational skills in the context of organising and supporting small scale events.
Information regarding typical learners who might take the course
This course is designed for those who are interested in administration and practical uses of IT and want to
develop their skills further. This course will prepare students for the next stage in their education and for
entering the world of work.
Course Structure and Conditions of Award
These courses comprise of three mandatory Units.
National 4 - Learners must pass all of the required units as well as the Added Value Unit.
National 5 - Learners must pass all of the required units as well as the Course assessment.
Assessment
National 4
All units will be internally assessed and subject to SQA verification. In addition to this pupils will complete an
Added Value Unit. This is a practical and administration and IT-based assignment, which will involve a range
of straightforward tasks relating to organising and supporting events.
National 4 courses are not graded
National 5
All units will be internally assessed and subject to SQA verification. In addition to this pupils will complete an
assignment which requires them to use their knowledge, understanding and skills in the context of organising
and supporting an event.
