This course will allow learners to consolidate and further extend their skills developed through the
experiences and outcomes for Drama.
Using basic production techniques, they will also present drama to communicate meaning to an audience.
National 4 & 5
Drama isn’t only for those who wish to pursue a career in the Theatre. Learners will develop a wide range of
skills which are extremely useful whatever they choose to do after they leave school.
Presentation skills, organisational skills, communication skills, coping under pressure and working to
deadlines are all experienced in the Theatre production and added value units.
These courses are broad based and suitable for learners with a proven interest in Drama and performing.
Students are encouraged to communicate and share their ideas in a supportive environment which allows
them to create and explore production skills successfully.
Students are encouraged to work independently and collaboratively. They must have proved ability in this
before undertaking the course.
Course Structure and Conditions of Award
Access 3
Drama Skills - In this Unit, learners will explore and develop a range of basic dramatic techniques and ways of
communicating thoughts and ideas to an audience. They will learn how to respond to straightforward
stimuli. They will also learn how to develop character at a basic level and develop understanding of form and
structure when creating short pieces of drama.
Production Skills - In this unit, learners will gain knowledge of production techniques at a basic level. They
will use these techniques to enhance drama when presenting. Learners will use problem-solving skills in
order to generate ideas in presenting drama.
To achieve Access 3 you must pass all units. Access 3 courses are not graded – they are recognised as either
Pass or Fail.
National
