Course Outline
At National 4 and National 5, pupils will study the following;
Mandatory units
Physical Environments
Teaching will focus on the UK and Scotland and will cover glaciation, limestone uplands, coastline erosion
and deposition and rivers and their valleys.
Human Environments
Teaching will focus on drawing comparisons between developing and developed countries. Issues will
include world population distribution and change, changing urban and rural landscapes and contrasting
levels of development.
Global Issues
Teachers will develop skills in the use of numerical and graphical information to study global issues such as
climate change and the globalisation of trade.
Added Value Unit: Assignment
In this Unit, learners will choose an issue for personal study drawn from one of the three mandatory units.
