Course Outline
Purpose and Aims
Biology is the scientific study of living organisms – how they function as individuals and how they interact
with one another and their environment. The scope of biology is extremely wide, varied and is rapidly
extending. It includes not only the traditional study of animals, plants and their environment, but also areas
such as molecular biology and biotechnology which have increasing relevance and importance in modern
society.
