DANA VERDE , armed and dangerous is no joke when it comes to filmmaker with social consciousness . Thus far Verde films have an alarming fashion of making us go deeper in regards to our consciousness and sub conscious awareness of family , community and social obligation to cultural diversity and acceptance . Her films have an undeniable call for the viewer to be awaken to the relationship we form and the dignity we chose to offer
in relating one to another .
Verde , a young independent filmmaker from Brooklyn , New York of Cuban and Caribbean descent invokes storylines of cultural diversity , common familial issues that separate parent from child and cause life-long scars . We the viewers are reminded of the multiplexes of societal ills that may plague any community and help shape the cultural diversity we have in our communities that make us unique yet gives us the pulsating energy of living
life in color .
Verde looks through the camera ’ s lens and see a wide array of colorful stories to tell but knows the mainstream media eyes are wide shut and unwelcoming of films that make us think with such awareness .
Former Brooklyn resident , a currently resides in Los Angeles , studied Media Studies and Screenwriting , graduate of the New School University in New York , and the London Film School in London . United Kingdom . Verde is a two time Sundance Screenwriter Lab finalist . Verde industry credits date back to 1998 ; include Producer , Writer and Director . Dana Verde has said of her work , “ I want to show the Diaspora and how much we have in common . I think media emphasizes on how much we ’ re different and they of marginalize people .” Her work is representative of diversity as she put it , “ In my life and my world we are not segregated . And it really pisses me off the way they segregate people . Verde is 1 / 2 Jamaican and 1 / 2 Cuban and abhors the way some tend to assume all Black people are African American . When she studied in the UK Verde noted the way they embraced diversity . She was one of two Black people in her school . She noted she was not a matter of concern ; there she says , “ We are all filmmakers ; you ’ re either good or bad . People didn ’ t judge me on all of that other stuff . In L . A . it ’ s like “ You ’ re a Black woman filmmaker , don ’ t you want to
make these kinds of films ?” And , I ’ m like , no , that ’ s not me .”
Verde ’ s latest project is in pre-productions is entitled , “ A Promise ” a touching storyline centered on a young single mother of a 10-year son , who begins to show the affects of being influenced by the wrong crowd .
