[ Davie ] I have two words. Tides Live. I have two more for you. Dan Mackenzie. I remember hearing his lines and thinking to myself.“ Is that allowed? We’ re allowed to play like that at church? Am I allowed to do that?” Not just from a bass playing perspective but also just a worship standpoint. Really powerful stuff on that record to me.
I would say another one for me is Jesus Culture’ s Come Away. I think my old church used to play nearly every song on that record at youth group. So, I had the pleasure and challenge of trying to imitate the great Brandon Aaronson almost every Friday night.
[ WM ] Outline your live rig on stage for us.
[ Davie ] At this point I am exclusively using my 93’ MIM Fender Precision Bass. I got it for my 18th birthday. I’ m running Lollar Pickups in it, and since it’ s an older Mexico made one, I needed to get all the wiring redone. I had a bone nut put in it as well to help with sustain. I plan to have this bass for the rest of my life.
I run out of that directly into my pedalboard. My pedalboard right now is basically a gigantic overdrive pedal. Everything on there sounds like it’ s blowing up and I love it like that. I also use a Moog Sub Phatty on the regular.
I’ m currently all direct for most things I play for. Bass amps are awesome but unfortunately quite cumbersome. If I get the chance to use an amp on stage, it’ s most likely our Ampeg Heritage SVT-CL head and matching cab.
[ WM ] Any bass gear endorsements?
[ Davie ] I am not currently endorsed by any company. But I personally endorse D’ Addario strings regularly.

[ Davie ] I have always been a fly on the wall and am not one to put myself out there. So, when I felt the Lord prompting me to start attending JC Sacramento I was determined to do exactly that. Not put myself out there. I actually had no intention of auditioning to join the worship team. I believe the Lord had a different plan since I quickly got connected to the Music Director at the time.
There is a lot of history behind what has made Jesus Culture what it is today. And it’ s an honor to get to be a part of the story we’ re telling. I loved getting to play on recording our last album. I was afforded a lot of creative freedom. It’ s a terribly humbling experience to be in the room with people who have been central to creating something as impactful as Jesus Culture’ s music, and even more so for them to let me rip. When I heard the final mixes from our record I was shocked with how loud they turned me up!( laughing)
[ WM ] Have you played with any other worship artists / worship teams?
[ Davie ] I have played with lots of other people I would now call friends. When I was 15, I did some traveling with a dear friend, playing youth camps and stuff like that with her. I’ ve also
