had the privilege of playing with Convergence Worship out of Fremont. I also played very regularly at my old church before coming to Jesus Culture Sacramento.
[ WM ] Any words of encouragement or advice for other worship team bass players?
[ Davie ] Don’ t forget that the sacrifice you are making will be rewarded in heaven. Early call times, taking time out of your busy week to learn setlists, to play songs with excellence. These are all sacrifices that the Lord sees and does in fact honor. Keep your head up, don’ t grow weary. He is worthy of everything that we have to offer. The talents that you have as a musician are in fact a gift from Him. And I personally believe that the sweetest offering we can bring is when we are fully engaged in what God blesses us with.
On a much less spiritual note. You are not just a“ bassist”, you are an artist! It’ s important to bring some creative weight to the environment you are in. Let yourself come out through your playing.
Have fun. The presence of God is not to be taken lightly, but I think that mistakes should be. I don’ t know who told me this, but someone said,“ Be like a goldfish.” Meaning; have a short enough attention span to forget the mistake you just made and finish out your set strong. Confidence is key.
