4 Sermon Series for Worship & Discipleship The WORD of the LORD 2013-2014 All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord endures forever. The 2013-2014 sermon series is designed to be a catalyst for spiritual growth. We continue to look at key words from the Bible, both from the Hebrew of the Old Testament, and the Greek of the New Testament, with the hope that we will capture all the shades of meaning of the word that sometimes our English translations fail to do justice. Here’s a refresher of the words we’ve learned so far: Euangelion (Greek)—good news Pistis (Greek)—Faith Soteria (Greek)—Salvation Koinonia (Greek)—Community Agape (Greek)—Sacrificial love Phileo (Greek)—Brotherly love Oikonomos (Greek)—house steward Christos (Greek)—Christ Mashiah(Hebrew)—Messiah 1 Peter 1:24-25 In January, we have two great words to Stewardship & Finance As of 12/29/13, we exceeded our goal and have 211 pledges for $949,228 so far for 2014. We’ll learn the Hebrew word dabar, and the Greek word logos, both of which mean “word.” In February, we’ll look at the great word of the covenant from the Old Testament, the word hesed, which means “steadfast love,” and from the New Testament, charis, which means “grace.” Each month we’ll provide handouts via email and on particular Sundays that will trace the usage of the word through Scripture, and provide some though-provoking questions or ideas for your own personal study.
