Sermon Series for Worship & Discipleship
The
WORD
of the
LORD
2013-2014
All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
and the flower falls,
but the word of the Lord endures
forever.
The 2013-2014 sermon series is designed to be a catalyst for spiritual
growth. We continue to look at key
words from the Bible, both from the
Hebrew of the Old Testament, and the
Greek of the New Testament, with the
hope that we will capture all the shades
of meaning of the word that sometimes
our English translations fail to do justice.
Here’s a refresher of the words we’ve
learned so far:
Euangelion (Greek)—good news
Pistis (Greek)—Faith
Soteria (Greek)—Salvation
Koinonia (Greek)—Community
Agape (Greek)—Sacrificial love
Phileo (Greek)—Brotherly love
Oikonomos (Greek)—house steward
Christos (Greek)—Christ
Mashiah(Hebrew)—Messiah
1 Peter 1:24-25

examine as we begin our Year of Spiritual Growth with a focus on the study of
God’s Word. We’ll learn the Hebrew
word dabar, and the Greek word logos,
both of which mean “word.” In February, we’ll look at the great word of the
covenant from the Old Testament, the
word hesed, which means “steadfast
love,” and from the New Testament,
charis, which means “grace.” Each
month we’ll provide handouts via email
and on particular Sundays that will trace
the usage of the word through Scripture,
and provide some though-provoking
questions or ideas for your own personal
study.
