EV Battery Solutions signed a multiyear, $205 million deal with Hyundai Motor Group — cementing itself as the leader in EV battery repair and refurbishment and improving the EV customer experience.
The historic agreement between Hyundai Motor Group and EV Battery Solutions was 18 months in the making.
It began with relationship-building — email conversations, virtual meetings, flights to and from South Korea, navigating Korean business customs and establishing trust. It evolved into EV Battery Solutions demonstrating its engineering expertise and capabilities; showcasing its centers in Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, Detroit and Atlanta; asking critical questions; and providing insights into U. S. regulations and protocols.
Hyundai Motor Group is a South Korean conglomerate that owns the car brands Kia, Hyundai and Genesis. The company came to the table looking for a provider to repair battery packs for an increasing number of Kia warranty vehicles in need of service; in EV Battery Solutions it also found a trusted partner to protect its brand and serve as an extension of its operations.
“This win represents a collective effort across Cox Enterprises, Cox Automotive and EV Battery Solutions,” said Tara Galloway, senior director of enterprise accounts at EV Battery Solutions. “We built their confidence in our ability to repair and refurbish batteries efficiently and affordably in secure facilities that exceed industry standards. Through education and advice, we solidified their trust in our expertise — which far exceeds the competition and makes us the industry’s go-to partner for EV service.”
EV Battery Solutions supplies specialized testing equipment and industry-leading capabilities in battery management, remanufacturing, diagnostics and valuation. It handles repair work for Kia EV6 and EV9 models, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, and Genesis vehicles at its Atlanta and Las Vegas facilities.
It also restores defective batteries in those same Kia models using high-quality parts from other defective batteries; these refurbished batteries then replace faulty ones in vehicles under warranty. In fact, EV Battery Solutions maintains an inventory of healthy batteries ready for shipment to speed up service turnaround times.
Having this kind of battery repair and refurbishment solution is critical for Hyundai Motor Group and Kia as they make aggressive investments to expand their EV portfolio. “Simply replacing sick batteries with brand new ones is costly and unsustainable,” said Tara. “By repairing and refurbishing existing EV batteries we not only keep EVs accessible and affordable, we maintain a positive EV experience for customers.”
The partnership with Hyundai Motor Group includes contracts with Kia, Hyundai, Mobis (for battery storage) and Genesis. It also represents the potential for additional work with Hyundai Motors America, Hyundai Canada, Kia Canada, and hybrid electric vehicle programs for Kia Optimas and Hyundai Sonatas.
Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to EVs sets it apart from other manufacturers, and the partnership is shining a light on EV Battery Solutions and its range of capabilities. According to Lea Malloy, vice president of EV Battery Solutions, this announces our leadership in extending the life and protecting the value of EV batteries to their original equipment manufacturers as they too continue to expand their EV portfolios.
“EV Battery Solutions is partnering with Hyundai Motor Group at a scale no one else can match,” said Lea. “As EV adoption continues to increase, we are ready and able with an unmatched footprint and a depth of operational and engineering capabilities to serve the needs of our OEM partners. This is what EV leadership looks like.”
